You know, IH, I always thought the 4070 Transtar was a good truck. It shook terribly, (Reyco susp) and had a nasty blind spot on the right, but for backing in somewhere, it couldn't be beat, and I hate cabovers. I won't even begin to tell you the horror stories I had with a set back axle Frightliner cabover. Man, I hated that truck. It's a testament to my driving ability, that I never hit anything with that truck.

Best thing I ever did with my Transtar was replace the rear 10 stack leaf springs with Hutch 3 leaf trailer spings.
Just by looking at them side by side, you would think it would make the ride worse..But in fact,it improved the ride by 50% or better, loaded or empty...
Babcock spring knew what they were talking about...

best time to replace the brake valve is when you have the trans out. I usually do this if I have a lot of miles on the truck. just remember where the air lines go! I mixed two lines up once and didn't figure it out until I had hit the road. had to step on the brake pedal and push the air button to air the seat up LOL!

Hi oicu, Brownberry Bread in Oconomowoc, which became Best Foods, which became Bimbo Bakeries. ( I know, what a silly name, that was after I left), and probably a few more in there. It had air ride cab, ( that "pogo-sticked" down the highway) and the clutch was so funky, there was no "pressure point", like a dog clutch. In or out. Had like 4 mirrors on the right side, and you STILL had a blind spot. Man I hated that truck. Something like this. http://cdn2.traderonline.com/v1/media/55b68247ad3a22af155daa22.jpg?width=300&height=225

Well,we were young men back then and could take the beating a little better. That truck reminds me of the Freightliner I drove for Wisconsin Packing. Steel springs, hard mount cab. I guess it was a blessing that I didn't know any better.
