Well, he got this ticket home yesterday afternoon, and he got lucky. It is listed on the ticket as a correctable violation.

When they got the trailer in the shop, and started looking at it, there was a seal of some sort that was "trying to go bad". So part of the brake had to be replaced. And it was written off at the Chowchilla scales this morning. (HUGE sigh of relief!)

I know they can be that's why I sad, well they can be but it's not like adjusting manuals. or however I said it.

If you try to adjust autos like you would regulars it becomes a mess. They all are adjustable otherwise how would you initially set them.

Trucks are quickly becoming like tv's... "Do Not Open--No User Serviceable Parts Inside"...

The reason they tell you auto-slacks should not be manually adjusted is because when they stop working, it usually means there are further problems with the brakes than just a frozen slack. I personally don't think auto-slacks are a good idea, they create laziness in checking your brakes. I mean, it's not all that hard to grab your 9/16" and adjust manual slacks--it takes just a few minutes. It makes you look at things under the truck more in-depth.

I bet there is a whol lot of drivers out there that don't know how to adjust brakes anymore.

Automatics are great but you do need to check them. Manuals have a nasty tendancy to go from working good to NOT working at all at the most inopertune times if you don't stay on top of them

My car trailer you cannot get under it to adjust the slacks, unless you are over a pit. It sits far too low to the ground. A stepdeck you can get under.

M&M I'm sure you are correct about nobody knowing how to adjust brakes.

lol, I had the same problems with the medical scanners. My big belly didn't fit under the trailers.

I have manual adjusters and I can reach every one from the top as long as there is no trailer on it. I can't even get my shoulders between the tandems on a truck so I need to drop the trailer or crawl in from the back

I can fit between tandems, but my belly won't go under the axle sway bars if I get under the truck and try to crawl around.

M&M Is there any way you can go back to hauling scanners for a few months to make some coin?
