A semitractor-trailer filled with syrup caught fire on northbound Interstate 15 in the Virgin River Gorge Thursday afternoon. Traffic was impacted throughout the evening. The Beaver Dam-Littlefield Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at mile marker 18, near the exit to Cedar Pocket Road, shortly before 4 p.m. MDT. Responders found the semi almost fully engulfed, and the syrup was a total loss.
“It was almost all consumed,” Chief Ojeda said. “I don’t know why it consumed itself so quickly. I don’t know if it’s something that had to do with the syrup or whatever else she was carrying, but when we arrived on the scene, the tractor was long gone, and then almost three-quarters of the trailer was gone also.” 369928769_2091281717869444_7310918479612255171_n-e1692919244850-1024x973.jpg 370191534_2091281687869447_8265653004391956390_n-e1692919258374-1024x809.jpg 369866270_2091281734536109_4606953855048435904_n-e1692919228385-1024x1020.jpg 369912546_2091281701202779_2634768654466121292_n-e1692919210585-1024x942.jpg

Kind of weird that cap off the drive laying there. Wheel bearing maybe?

Bearing failure and lost wheels? There appears to no rims on front drive axle ps maybe that took out fuel tank which caused it to go inferno quickly

    TheLoadOut Thanks this.

That's easily explained by heat causing the air to expand and the tire popping off from that. Or it could have been wheel failure too.

Those caps are held on by the lug covers and they screw on.

Yes. And? Have you never seen heat and fire cause all sorts of catastrophic failures:? I know I have.
I've also seen fire split a welded rim in half when the tire also went....

Just saying you might be looking at the effect of the fire, not the cause. Or you could be looking at the cause, hard to know.

If that was real syrup (not log cabin) I can’t even guess on the value of the load ……
