I once had an auto go out on me and I was able to nurse it home (1500 miles) using this trick to get her in gear. What you do is cut the key off and just before the motor stops you put it in gear and then turn the key back on, just barely catching the motor to go back up to idle before she cuts off. Now my truck had a clutch and I don't want to tell you anything that damages your truck but I was sitting out in -10 weather late in the evening and I was ready to try anything and this trick worked for me and got me home again. Please use it if you decide to do so at your own risk. Good luck and if you try it let me know what happens.
