I have found out why rates are soo low in flatbedding right here in these POSTS!
    Hauling for $!.50-$1.35 is rediculous.

I agree with freebird. Keep hauling for $1.35 or less per mile and they'll keep offering them low rates.

I wonder why a man who owns his own truck, and is assuming that risk is happy with $500 week paycheck.

that provides enough to pay the recurring bills that I have; not nearly enough to keep me out there working. the OP asked about breakeven. not what would be enough to run at all week. i make my breakeven include a bottom line to cover all expenses. doesn't mean that I would be willing to consistently run for a rate such as my breakeven. If I made $500 a week; I'd quit soon as I got the first settlement:biggrin_25523:
If on occasion I'm in a crap freight area; I might have to dead head out. also in my breakeven is a 20% total deadhead provision. I know my fixed costs; and build future expenses into my budget, as well as a small cushion.
Maybe it came across like I'm a fool willing to work for pennies. I may be a fool; but I'm not going broke.:biggrin_2558:

OK, I must have misunderstood you, just thought that if you were on a time clock for 40hrs for $500 that would be 12.50/hour. We all know O/O works more than 40 hrs. Now Im going to be close to 60k this year, local route and punch a clock and go home each evening. I just dont understand why someone will own a truck and make less than a company man can??? But I do understand the freedom, but how free can a man be with all the risk looming over??

I still need to know if the rates I posted or higher are seen on a regular basis. Dry Van/Reefer not Flat.
