I feel the same, but it's best to have the information out there then for someone to say that they didn't know

I really cringe at the idea of people with guns at a truck stop....
I might be parked next to them, or 3 trucks down, and get hit.
While in a house, you have layers of drywall and plywood to slow down a handgun bullet, in a sleeper you have plastic, fiberglass and tin foil around you, and you aren't going to be able to control where that bullet goes as you are trying to shoot at someone in confined spaces, under stress, in the dark.
Chances are you are going to take out one or more of your own windows and windshield, and the bullet will then continue and go into the row of trucks on the other side of the aisle, possibly hitting a driver, but at least putting you on the hook for the damage to their truck (bullets through a radiator into the engine get expensive...)
And if you are outside the truck, go in to get the gun, then get back out to face the threat, you are no longer covered by self defense, but are now escalating the situation, and if you threaten with the gun at this point, or use it, it is now assault with a deadly weapon, or attempted murder (even in gun friendly states, unless you are white in Florida....)
And if you are carrying it with you when you get attacked, well, you will get arrested for illegal concealed weapons charges and go to jail.
Basically, unless you are legal to CCW in the location you are in, or on private property far away from others, there is very little chance that you can use a gun to defend yourself, without severe legal issues.
Which means, find another way to defend yourself, that won't take away years of your life...
Oh, and in the best case scenario of a guy breaks into your sleeper, comes face to face with a gun, and runs scared, guess what? He will probably make an anonymous call to the cops, and say he saw someone brandishing a gun at a woman through a crack in the curtain, and you will still have severe legal issues! -
This is ridiculousalghazi, Ooops, northernhopper and 2 others Thank this.

Lots of what ifs there. Alot of which has been talked about and disproven. As for a built going through a sleeper, yeah it's possible, but if one is using hollow points, the chance of a through and through diminish alot

Lol, I have shot at enough junk cars with .22 HP, and various other items that are much heavier than a sleeper box, and seen how little protection sheet metal gives for bullets.
I know that a lot of the gun-focused people base a lot of their ides of gun use and bullet performance off of Hollywood, and don't have much practical training, so thinking that a sleeper wall would stop a bullet is not too surprising I guess!
This is why it scares me thinking such people have guns parked next to me, and thinking that their lightweight fiberglass or sheet metal shell is going to protect me...Bob Dobalina and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
The 9yrs I was OTR I have never gotten attacked .I have talked to many drivers during that 9 yrs and none of them was a threat.I don't know of any starter companies that will allow drivers to carry firearms. It you feel you need to protect yourself then take self defense lessons.

Sleeper will barely slow down a round imo, unless you're using frangible. I carry, but I only run in states that have a reciprocal agreement with Texas. It's against company policy, but I honestly don't care that much about my job compared to my life. To each their own, but being a Texan means I sleep with a chambered pistol within reach at all times
Ooops Thanks this. -
A couple hits from a quick search on bullets through trucks...
Salem fired five shots. One of the bullets hit a truck that was traveling east on Interstate 44. The bullet went through the sleeper berth. Fortunately, the man in the sleeper was not injured.
How safe are truck drivers? Are those “heavy-duty” trucks that dwarf four-wheelers any safer than other highway vehicles? We asked Wayne Brown, president of Bodyguard Armoring, Austin, Texas. Brown has more than two decades of experience armoring vehicles and knows how to fend off bullets.
“Truck drivers are no safer than any other driver,” says Brown. “A .22 will go right through a truck door or window.”
Brown has a national reputation for bullet-proofing vehicles for clients. He says the basic handgun armor used consists of 3/8-inch Kevlar composite in the doors and body, and transparent armor that is 3/4-inch thick. It defeats handguns up to .44 Magnum.
