Ok....Was out in my shed earlier trying to tidy up some and discovered my duel coiled 10k has a broken coil at the base of its spiral off the shaft...Before i bring it to a welder to fix,is there anything special i should ask/tell said alumium welder or is it basically all the same alumium welding?

Tks....Got another question.....There is a fella fairly local to me selling a few rolls of 2" wide copper tape...If i were to apply some strips of it under the hood of my vnl volvo, would it be any benifit for tx/rx....Thinkin about puttin my gear in this trk, goin a lil stirr crazy without a good radio or ant set up for the best part of a yr now..

I don't know, I never thought about the hood being beneficial as a reflector, the engine yes, and any framing.

Well yrs ago when hoods were metal im sure it help but with fibreglass(i get the engine and frame)im thinkin its not doin a thing....If it helps with more foward direction why not is my thought.....
Just was surfin through fb market place and saw copper tape while droppin the kids off at the pool(apply grunts n groans and other body noises here)and got to thinkin along the lines of when hammys use the same idea for base antenna but with a wire mesh like a spider web type thing..

Craig, I think you will find the Volvos are a bit easier to set up an antenna system than a Cascadia. One of the reasons is the cab/sleeper is all steel. It's not aluminum panels bonded together like the Cascadia. Some ground straps in the usual places should help. Mounting may be a bit of a challenge when running a van trailer. I have mine mounted behind the sleeper (strictly skateboard for me) on a Top Gun bird perch mount from Bob's. 20220904_160311.jpg That mount has a nice beefy bird perch, unlike most of the ones that screw into one of the mirror bolt holes. That mount can be used on the mirror support bracket at the middle of the top of the door, but you will be limited to about a 5 foot antenna unless you want to revert to leaning it forward Cascadia style! I tried that but didn't like the way it sat. I'm sure I could've made it work but it lined up perfectly where I have it now.

Yeah i pull a box.....I was tryin to decided if i wanna go through all that crap to set up my gear but i want outta this trk and back to a plascadia....Been wanting out now for about a yr but i keep gettin told when new trks come in that they will put me in one of our ex long haul plascadias...Issue is when,my luck ill get the volvo set up with my gear and then they will give me what i have been wanting for this past yr..I was gonna set up a 10k sw and run some older coax(save my new messi & paoloni for a long term set up)to get me by till i remembered i have one with a broken coil..Now im back with my original idea of "f@#k it" and not bother..Besides .y new cancer drug has been kickin in with a side effect of fatique,so no real desire rite now to pull stuff apart..
