Does that joint have two grease fittings by chance?

It does have two fittings. To be honest I don't even know if it is broken off. I shot some grease in the good one and it's all coming out the other one. Feeling with my finger I just assumed it was broken off. Hell it might have just unscrewed itself and fallen out. I was in a hurry to go, the joint is good, so I figured another week running isn't going to hurt it and rolled until I get back in to look at it closer. Lots of good hacks in this thread if it is broken off, lol, thanks!!!

Never used that tool but I do not thank that it will fit in an assembled U joint. Things others have mentioned have worked for me as well as left handed drill bits.
In a bind I have taken a small screw and driven it into the broken grease fitting with a hammer and punch. Then beat the heck out of it. Grease it with the other fitting.
That is Ozark engineering from and old timer I grew up around. I changed the application.
A lot of times the fittings just go bad and the check ball does not work.

It was a broken off zerk. Nipple somehow knocked clean off. How??? I'll never know. But anyway that little 4 way 1/4" broken zerk extractor tool I posted in the OP works like a champ. You can't get a full turn on it twisting it but it will get one out if you work at it. Tractor Supply stocks those extractors in various sizes along with zerks.

I just bought an assortment of Zerks from Harbor Freight. Today at Trailer Supply, I see Zinc coated Brand name Zerks. They seemed heavier. Is it a big deal? Now I’m kind of Leary of the cheap ones.

lots of work for a somewhat cheap U joint. Last time I had a zerk break off, replaced the joint, grease was already contaminated with water.

Not really. It was about a 5 minute job. Doubtful much contamination was in it even though I ran it like that for over 2 months. Didn't see much rain in that time frame nor put a lot of miles on. The joint felt snug with no sloppiness and the old grease squeezing out when I shot the new in looked normal. If that u-joint wears out sooner than 10 or 15 years I will be surprised.

Nine times out of ten, They break off when the Grease Gun Coupler is adjusted up a bit Too Tight, & instead of Pulling the Coupling Straight Off. They give it a Twist Off & the tip stays in the Coupling..

Or at Least, that's being My experience..
