No, you're not even in the universe with that comparison.

When you go to a store you're a consumer, not a business.

If you go to a hospital, and you need treatment or you're going to die, you don't have a lot of choices.

Exactly right. And when enough people stopped buying it due to the BS markup, what would happen? They would be forced to eat some margin, and lower their prices. That would be good for the consumer. Same thing with broker transparency forcing the broker to go after the shipper for more money. In the end, it's good for the driver.

What would stop the broker from putting some bogus amount down on the rate con, or in other words lie about what he's making, if you can just imagine that.

Buying groceries is a business to me. I have only so much to spend. Lol
Outrageous markups exist everywhere. How someone handles them can be up to them. Ridiculous insurance rates are due in part to the apathy of people. If we were more involved it what goes on in our lives we would be better off.
Don’t like a broker’s rate - leave it. If you operate your trucking business as such that you “need” to haul cheap freight it’s on you. If more guys would operate within their means this subject wouldn’t get near as much attention.
The dummies will never go away. All the rest of us can do is work around those who haul cheap and those who pay poorly.
I prefer to see less gov’t. control and more supply and demand.

I hear that. I'd like to see something evolve that didn't include the friggin government stepping in for a change. But I'm not getting on that soapbox, lol. Or else I'll never get off!!!

The problem is that when you buy something at the grocery store that's different than you earning your living because of their markup.

If their markup is too high you can find another grocery store that the price will be where it's supposed to be.

But you don't have to go to a grocery store you don't have to buy a loaf of bread you can buy Bagels instead you don't have to buy cereal you can buy granola or you can buy whatever.

But 99% of the people in this business need to go through Brokers. There's no choice unless you're going to get direct Freight which most one truck guys are not.

And by the way you don't even have to go to the grocery store you can make your own food if you really wanted to. This business is different.

I agree if it was transparent the Brokers would have to work harder to make money. They would have to be more reliable and run a Better Business not only for the shippers but for the carriers.

At that point the carrier's actually are a much more important commodity because it's not just about how cheap can you move the truck how much money can I keep in my pockets, it's going to be hey come haul for us we pay you the best.

We are the best brokers because we get the best prices because we give the shipper the best service and we give the carrier's the most money.

It would seriously change the dynamic.

Because the government would most likely audit them from time to time.

    Or if there were complaints.

As far as I know that's all federal law it's not something they're going to want to violate. Most likely they would lose their bond and probably have legal consequences besides.

The brokers could be forced to pay better without government interference. All truckers need to do is work together to force the broker to pay more. When the broker gets hungry enough he can go to the shipper by himself and ask for more money. When the shipper is forced to pay more he can go to the consumer with higher prices on his product.
How long has broker transparency been a regulation? What good has it done to have a regulation? The same situation exists with the reg. and without it. The truckers need to band together to get the reg. enforced. They also need to band together to get better rates through brokers.
Either way (with or w/ o the reg) truckers need to bring about change if they want change.

    Cry me a freakin River.

If you pull for Landstar, why do you care about brokers? Isn’t LS the cats meow?

If you as a truck or fleet owner are currently butt hurt over rates, you got much bigger problems IMO.

Rates are higher then literally ever before, so if you’re struggling then quit now.
