@rollin coal, I don't know if they are loosening up or not. A friend of mine has a friend who is a trooper and I lucked out and got a level 3 from him. I hate this about the world but it's all in who you know. He didn't even look at my truck, didn't look at my logs. He looked at my cab folder and put it in the system and all my problems seem to have disappeared. It is what it is, but of course I'm thankful.

@Meonthenet, there are lots of ways to make a living in a truck. I choose to stay independent running dry van. Plenty of good work in my area and I'm holding steady at $3pm from middle of last year to present. I am on Highway with a lot of brokers. I dont' love it. It's a choice to keep doing things the way I want to do them. ALL companies are soulless. It's just business.

Highway and companies like them are a response from the market to deal with all the fraud in the industry. Hopefully we're in the middle of a correction with the non-domicile and illegal immigrant crackdowns. We shall see, but stuff like this isn't going away. And it's not just trucking. Every business you deal with is tracking you. If you don't believe it look up dishwashers on your phone and see how quick you start getting dishwasher ads every frreakin' media outlet you visit.

I still have not gotten an inspection, good to see you can see a difference with brokers.

You're right and most likely it is facilitating fraud.

Man, sorry to hear it. That's backwards. You run clean, stay outta the scales, and now that's the thing holding you up. Profile pic makes a lotta sense now lol

Part that gets me is you know exactly why and there's still nothing you can do about it, since you can't make a roadside happen. You ever offer to send em your annual DOT inspection? wondering if that'd move the needle at all, or if they only care about the roadside kind.

That has worked with some brokers actually.

I haven't had much trouble in awhile. I think they are finally thinking of other ways to vet carriers.

86scotty, glad it eased up for you. We went through the same wall last year. Ten years, no claims, no crashes, and brokers started bouncing us because the Highway profile had "no inspections" next to our name. Nobody at the broker looked past that one screen.

What worked for us was giving the broker something to look at instead of the Highway page: our annual DOT inspection, insurance cert, and a one page sheet with our FMCSA record and the brokers we already run for. Half of them took it, the rest were not worth chasing.

The part that still bothers me is that carriers have no say in it. Highway sells the broker a score on us, and we cannot rate the broker back. Nobody asks the carrier how the broker paid or how many times the rate got cut after pickup.

Curious, are the brokers who blacklisted you still on Highway only, or did any of them switch to other vetting?

Not sure. I usually mark them on my list as a no-go and just move on.

I made up a PDF with about 10 inspections I've gotten over the years and I forward that to the broker if it's a load worth chasing. That has worked with a couple of them.

    No, it wasn’t you.

The lowlife he mentioned put up a wall of text regarding cryptocurrency.

86scotty, that PDF of old inspections is a smart move, we ended up doing something close to it. Ours is one page: the annual DOT inspection, the insurance cert, and a short list of brokers we already run for with somebody who will pick up the phone and vouch for us. The brokers who actually care about safety take it. The ones who are just clearing a screen never will, and no piece of paper is going to change that.

What still gets me is how one sided it is. They pull a score on us in ten seconds, and we get to guess from one phone call whether a broker pays in 30 days or 75 and whether the detention on the rate con is real. Everything we know about the broker side is word of mouth, threads like this one, and whoever we happen to know.
