Often said, often repeated. In 27 yrs that’s never been true for me, or many others I’ve known. Might be true on paper in a perfect world. Not in my experience. Right now for instance, I’m running a 24 yr old Truck with 2.5 million miles. It has been and probably will continue to be the most reliable Truck I’ve ever owned of the 3. I know it inside and out. It’s had 2 inframe OH, 2 Transmissions, 2 Clutches. Rears are original. Worst case scenario is a rear end , or a transmission replacement. Current reman has 1.4 mil miles. I’m expecting either may need replacing soon. Either one will cost roughly $5000. Piece of cake. No need to make everything so scary. It’s not. The wrong choices, like getting a $3000 per mo. payment trying to guarantee success, is another way. Problem is nothing’s guaranteed.

Those numbers I gave consist of both fixed and variable. I’m not say everyone has a 3,000 a month truck payment. What I am saying is you should be able to make one. If your business model only affords you old cheap trucks it is not a business I want to be in.
also you have pretty cheap health insurance. I was paying 1500 a month for a family of 4 until the wife went to work for the government.Siinman and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
No, I’d rather pull a van than that miserable freightBrettj3876 and Rideandrepair Thank this.

And that’s fine. But it’s a different game.Siinman and Rideandrepair Thank this.

I make more money running new equipment than I ever did running older equipment. The down time alone makes up the truck payment.Siinman, Rideandrepair and OscarGoldman Thank this.

Brutal. Are you sure you don’t have Joe confused with someone else? Like I said before. He tells it like it is. No BS or exaggerating. No need to apparently. Plenty of others here that fill those shoes. Lots of rich Truckers. Some even have vague settlements to prove it. Lol. I’ve seen so many Bolstering Truckdrivers over the years. It’s almost part of the Independent Spirit. It’s refreshing to hear some honesty for a change. Most of the Big Shots don’t last long, despite their “Great” Success. Lol. And they always did everything right!!! I just don’t understand it. I do everything wrong. Yet I’m still at it. I’m just as surprised as others who know it all.Last edited: Mar 26, 2023

This is the truth..... 2-3 days of downtime is more than a new tractor payment plus one has the repair expenses on top of that.
Opus, Rideandrepair and Jubal Early Times Thank this.
