Works for me... where do I sign up. I hate going to Ontario and would love it if I NEVER had to go there again. Keep me in the west, or anywhere in the US, but never east of Manitoba.

To the O/P yes a broker will rip you off if you let them. I worked for one in 97 for 2 months and quit. I never did it again and never will. Lesson learned.
As far as the US goes. In all my years of driving I have never had a problem with my brothers in the south. Never. When I'm working I spend more time in the US then in Canada. And that works for me because I hate running in Canada. Back in 07 I ended up in a NC Hospital and was treated very well. When I got back to Canada I was treated like crap. -

People who go work for brokers are doing so in the belief that they will actually make more money through tax write offs.
People who offer employment through a contract position are doing so simply because they have no wish to pay workers comp,Canada pension or vacation pay or stat holiday pay. They want that money for themselves.
Revenue Canada says that you cannot be recognised as a sub contractor unless you own the equipment being used to perform the job or own the lease on equipment.
The first person to not get paid will always be the driver....you are the insurance provider for the broker.
People who work for brokers as contractors are helping to drive down rates.
I don't have much sympathy for people who don't get paid by brokers who cheated them. You want to cheat the tax man then whine that you yourself were cheated....too bad. -
I tried working with a broker simply for the reason that they could keep me busy, without my calling anyone for a load. I did one call for one, and I learned fast the reason why i never work with them (brokers).
