Yea, why did he or the company not call. Also if they run a qualcom or similar unit, ask for a copy of the trip report
They can print it out or email it to you
I believe he was off screwing around
In all the years I have traveled through Ky. I have never had that happen. Not saying it couldn't happen, but has to me

    Fishy.

If I got tossed into scales and then told waitaminute, New permits PLEASE.... I would be on the phone hollaring at my dispatch who will be CALLING YOU warning that your cranes are going to sit on it's expensive overpaid ###. Not even a hour after trooper makes demands for permit. (Who the (*^^ does he think he is, the little tin god? btw....)

    It's fishy.

We have heavy haul in our area several times a week. They pull up to the 67 bridge and sit considering it carefully before crossing. Our Police leaves them the hell alone.

Never. I have never had an HP pull me off route to weigh. Never. If I get pulled by an HP, it is because he wants to see the permit. Hand them a permit, they do a 10 second walk around, and hand it back to you and tell you to have a safe ride.

If a cop pulls you to a scale, you can bet your bottom dollar that he's going to do some sort of inspection too. There should be at the very least a Level 3 inspection sheet to go along with that new permit.

There's no way they can get you off route and then hit you up for a new permit. The driver screwed around somewhere.

I've had them take me off route to weigh me with the portables but they've always escorted me back to my route unless they voided my permit then I had to get a new one.

He did call me when it happened (well about 2 hrs after it happened) but it was too late to call off the cranes. We had some crane work to do before the truck got there so the cranes were already on site.

I think I finally found the real story. He had a permit but when he stopped at the scales the permit was wrong, he was permitted for 100' overall and he was actually 103' overall . They didn't write him a ticket but made him order a new permit. Anything over 100' requires a review by somebody higher up at the state and takes more time. Only thing I can figure with the made up story is to try to lay the blame on the state and not the trucking company for not ordering the right permit in the first place.

In all honesty, the job was for a set dollar amount so I can't go back to my customer. I actually had extra figured into this job because it's not all that uncommon to run into delays. I just don't like being lied to. I would have run into a time delay with my customer but they also had some delays on their end so it all worked out, I just won't make as much money as I could have because I could have went to my customer for more money due to their delays but since I wasn't ready on my end, I can't.

Well, if the driver is sorry for lying to you and failing to be professional with the Permits... perhaps you should fire him or take some money from him so he learns not to do that again.

I don't know. I was not there. Permitted loads in all states are a very, serious and not to be fooled with.

I'd dock the pay to the trucking company, having a permit for the correct dimensions is kinda important. You should't eat extra expenses because of someone else's inability to properly do their job.

We should always call when we know we're are going to be late.

Edit: Didn't see where he called until after I posted.

If I posted here how much that delay cost y'all would probably have a stroke. As I said, I had money figured in for delays (you have to) so it's not a killer and we busted our butt when the truck did arrive to make up for lost time. I understand stuff happens, just don't lie about it.

Anyway, the purpose of this thread wasn't to gripe about how much I made or didn't make on the job, I was just curious if the original story sounded plausible.
