well guys i called up BTC and they want a full course. feeling pretty bummed about this because i contacted other companies and they all say the same thing. so i dont know what i'm going to do, i dont have 5000, i dont know how i can get time off work to do the course's with out being fired. this just flat out sucks. the only possible hope i have is if i save up a months worth of pay, get some kind of financial aid/financing for the class's, quit my job and hope to god i get hired right away. and i cant risk that. i'm at a serious cross roads right now. it seems as the the only thing i can do is apply to these companies like CR england that do the training and give you a job after.
so go ahead say it, "I told you so".

stevens transport is saying they reimburse you for tuition costs if you stay with them for a year. maybe i will call them if i can get someone to lend me the money for truck school.
-
You owe YOURSELF to do more reading on them.....
123456 Thanks this. -
on stevens? yeah, i have read stuff about them on here. i dont know my head is kind of spinning right now. trucking is what i want to do, owning a truck is what i wanna be able to do in a few years, i'm just emailing company after company to find out if anyone hires without a full course like i'm trying to do. one way or another i'll get it figured out

And you do have TIME,young brother....slow down..

omd,
Based on your circumstances I would say you will have to think about it very carefully. Here are two ideas, now I dont know much about either company, so do your own investigation.......... You might look at Millis Transfer, they do a $500 down and finance the rest (like $2000) and you will train at their facility, for you that would be Trenton NJ.... I think, and over the road training, within a few weeks you should be in your own rig. If you work for them for a few months, they forgive the school amount and your free and clear. Search in the DAC company section.......a nice guy named Baratone has a blog and videos on u-tube.
Another option would be Prime, no money out of pocket and they provide book learning and over the road training as well, all in house. They are a good company, but have very tough standards.......no DUI's, clean driving record, good employment and no gaps a must.
Now do some research on here..... tons of info on both companies, in the DAC section. Let us all know what you decide, if you want it bad enough it can be done.....just dont listen to anymore of this nonsence about not needing to attend a certified school. -
yeah i am thinking over things, i'm only 23 right now, i own my house, i have a stable job, i'm not sure what to do. i am driving locally on my B license and have been for about 3 years but if i wanna own a truck i need to get otr to get the experience and so i can get insurance. i will email those two companies you suggested, i could care less about the pay i get, how long i'm gone. i'm prepared to stay out for over a month, my girlfriend is gonna be ok with it, she's moving in to take care of the house and dogs while i'm gone and she is gonna be ok with it.
all i care about is getting on with someone so i can get that crucial experience. i had the same hurdle when i got the class B license. i dont know why this company even offers this BS private course's, i mean i could probably get a local job with out a school but thats not what i wanna do right now. like i said if im gonna own a truck and ultimately be an independent contractor i've gotta get OTR, i'm still young i've got time i'm just eager i guess. if i cannot get hired on with a company that will accept the private lessons then will hold off on going OTR, and stay with this company to build up a good employment record. because of the economy i got laid off from the lumber yard job and i went back to doing carpentry, and its all off the books so i have a gap in my history from august of 2008 until november of 2009, and i've only been at this company for 8 months. maybe i just need to sit tight and enjoy being 23 for a little bit and quit freaking out about when i'm gonna be 40. -
sorry for the long winded response my heads been all over the place today.

Those gaps are a killler for a student driver, I would look and see what you could do to fill in those gaps maybe a 1099 ?.....BEFORE you fill out any employment applications for a student driving postion. Both of those companies I suggested have websites that state what they require in a student driver.....and they are not flexible as they are following FMCSA rules for hiring new drivers.

well now that i think about it, i can fluff up that gap, i have a friend with a construction company who would say i worked for him for that time. i guess thats one problem solved there, i shot millis an email, as well as about 10 today in the last half hour. i'll hold off on prime, and i'll see what i hear back. if i'm gonna take a leap i will need to save up quite a bit of money to cover my arse if i'm gonna go ahead and do a training thing with a company like prime. i dont have any DUI's, i think the only thing on my driving record going 3 years back is a bad inspection sticker. we'll see what happens, i need to quit being such a baby about this i dont know why i feel so let down haha its not really a big deal, i have a job, i can pay my bills.
