no OTR experience i've only driven locally on a B license. i will buy a truck but i wanna go out on the road for a couple years to make sure i can pull good miles, be efficient, learn the ropes out there cuz i'm sure its way different then local work. when the time comes i plan on refinancing my house and i'll buy a truck then.

and mike congrats, keep me updated like i said because i will definitely try and get on with BTC when i do upgrade to the A license. they seem to pay pretty good for o/o so if i get on as a company transitioning to to an o/o with them wouldn't be very difficult.

    Mike' Thanks this.

I will. I might not sleep tonight I am soooo exited. lol...

I am definitely getting a plane ticket instead of riding a GreyHound for 22 hours. omg...

Let's see... 3 hours flight time, 1 hour layover in Atlanta...

.............. 22 hours ride time with 2 transfers, one in Chicago, and one in BFE. ;)

i think i'd go a little mentally insane after a 22 hour bus ride. plane right is definitely the better choice haha.

    Jonny,

I graduated Friday at the top of my class and I know I started the BTC thread, but I'm going to Maverick, hopefully next weekend. I got a buddy of mine who is best friends with a Maverick driver and he had me talk to him and I liked what he had to say about the company.

We had one night drive while at school and we went up and over Monteagle on hwy 41. It was a little nerve racking; since I wasn't use to driving a big truck at night over a mountain. Also, when the instructor says to you, "you will not be able to keep this truck and trailer in one lane and do not let this trailer go past the white line", it makes you a little nervous. I'm sure that once I get to driving on my own that I will come back and thank my instructor for making us go up and over Monteagle.

Thats one road you dont want to drop your trailer off of, as the you and the truck will go with it! Good job on graduating at the top of your class!
I think Maverick will be a good choice, they are a complete auto fleet, which will allow you to focus on your trailer more. Did your school have any spread axel trailers? Those track and back slightly different then a tandem trailer, but I'm sure that learning curve will be no big deal....you will get used to dropping the air out of your suspension at times. Night driving in high traffic zones (Dallas,Atlanta, etc) will take all of your skills. Its great your school has the part of class, so many schools dont even think its important.

We didn't have any spread axle trailers at school but one of our instructors use to pull a spread axle trailer; so he gave us wanna be flatbedders a class on it. I know the class doesn't make up for actually using it, but it gave us a heads up on how it works. Also, that same instructor went to TDI to get his CDL before driving for a company and he said that he also came back and thanked his instructor for taking him up Monteagle at night.
