Really didn’t expect to see drop shipping at this scale. I guess if there is money to be made it will happen.

So what specifically are you doing with your processes. We were burned once this year and yesterday, we were almost burned again. There is now a scam factoring company involved. How do we combat that? We have reported double brokers to ITS numerous times and see carriers that show reports that are against them, but they are still posting on the board?

Lot of folks have given some decent ideas. One thing I've started doing is if there's any question at all, I have them send me a picture of the truck out front of the shipper. I've looked at enough of these shippers enough times to know which is which. I'm working on trying to get tracking set up correctly here, and I've also gone with @wichris's idea with the ELD logs emailed over.

Fair enough- we've been doing it for these customers for years. I honestly figured it was more prevalent than it probably is.

Only except them from the e-log company address. The one's we've caught have tried to photoshop them. Even had one who claimed the whole ELD company was down the week they had the load. ELD company didn't know anything about it. LOL

So last week. Beemac called me about a load. We agreed on a price and he emailed me the carrier packet. I spend 5 minutes filling it out and get to the end. They want access to my Elog, a copy of the truck registration and a copy of my DL.

I call him and tell him I won’t give them access to all that. And I don’t know him or what they do with the personal information. He said they send it to their onboarding company that they outsource to. I said that’s even worse. You called me with the number that’s listed on the FMCSA website. That should be good enough, but if not I understand. We decided to part ways.

A few hours later he booked the load with an eastern euro fella. The agent screwed up and email the guys DL, cab card and insurance information to me. I was kind enough to email him back explaining that this is the reason I refused to give the information. I now have a DL number, DOB and address for this guy. I’m sure that’s all a good thief needs to steal an identity.

We only set up our customers to have access to the ELD, never any broker.

On the brokerage side, unless a carrier we know well we require the driver to e-mail the logs at pu/del, That way we at least know the truck/vin#/driver and company is correct.

I would have been willing to send a screenshot or email them my log. I also have MacroPoint and trucker tools. I don’t have problems with the broker/customer tracking me. But I am not sending a stranger a copy of my DL.

I understand fraud has become a huge issue, but that isn’t the answer.
