I guess having rates disclosed wouldn't necessarily help. I'd like to think that if I was getting paid significantly more than the shipper is actually paying, it should be a sign that something is off. The big thing would be having access to all parties involved in the transaction. But the way a lot of these contracts are written, they don't even want you communicating with the customers unless you get their permission.

I just found out that we got snookered on a $10,000 load by a double broker. I don’t have all the info yet but as soon as I do get it from the office tomorrow I will post it.

Repeat business is the way to go. However the rate is low, you’re not going to have a carrier commit more often. So you pay cheap, you get cheap. I do summer loads with a brokerage that pays well. I put myself in their lane and do as much as I can. They have a few regulars and that limits their risk. In this overcapacity market with some guys not wanting to deal with new folks, you can have a handful of guys dedicated. Can’t pay the amount, haul em yourself. Can’t pay enough to drivers to come to you, or pay enough for some dedicated o/o, you’re gonna have to play games. In a perfect world, you should know who is hauling your customers freight. You worked hard to earn your customer, why use a feller that you don’t know.

My CHR agent told me on Monday that last week someone stole few loads of Red Bull. Scammers did the old fishing email trick, got all the info of a trucking company and managed to book freight with some young CHR employee.
Says scammers usually have few of those stolen MC's and keep calling untill once in a while they get a new inexperienced agent on the phone , who books freight with them, not noticing some red flags.

Heck, I even got scammed myself last year. Broker did a QuickPay for scammer and then ended paying me 7 months later

Just an idea, require the driver of the carrier you are tendering the load to, to take a picture of the side of the truck with the DOT number visible in the pic, holding a finger of your choosing up. And have the driver text that picture directly to you. Might piss the driver off at first, it certainly did me when I had to go through that with the one and only broker who I ultimately thanked (and his load was garbage, 4 day haul on 800 miles and only paid $1400) for really doing all he could to make sure the carrier actually hauling the load got paid. The load ended up canceling which I wasn't loosing sleep over, but that guy at first was ticking me off, but then when he explained everything I realized if I ever haul for that broker I get paid, if or when I have my own authority anyway.

Haha. That is classic. Phishing isn't just for emails. Someone if they wanted to could fool you into entering your user and password for this site even, if you don't pay attention to what that holy grail of an address bar says.

The first thing that needs to be done is that the government has to pass laws that do not allow any foreign-based brokers, dispatchers, carriers, etc. Everyone should have to be a citizen or a resident and be residing here.

The second thing that needs to be done is that a broker, carrier, shipper or any other player in this biz shouldn't be allowed to form a new company if they have outstanding obligations or if they did anything unscrupulous. You have players gaming the system, and when it's time to blow things up, they just pack up and form a new company. Rinse and repeat.

Nah, I got you. That's actually not a half bad idea, either. That would be simple enough to implement, too.

Ive been asked for a pic of the truck a few times now cause i dont have any inspections listed anymore. Recently had one ask for that and a pic of my cdl. Nomally would have told em no but I've hauled for them plenty of times over several years so not a big deal. Now i read a story how the scammers are asking for the cdl pic to use it to hijack authority with a paper mcs150. I dont know how the bs is ever gonna be stopped.
