Not as in a drop axle to set the front end lower, I'm talking about a Pusher axle. Front axle 14,600 and a 12K or greater Pusher Axle.
As far as power wise, I dbout I'd be looking for much more than 500. One day down the road it'd be nice to be able to build up a dream motor, but I think 475 to 500 would be plenty of power for me with 4.10's and a 18 speed. Especiallly if I decide on putting an aux trans behind the 18.

As far as a manufacturer status, if I remember correctly, some folks I know up in WA State build trucks like this and they sell them with a salvage title. If it works that way in WA I am sure that WY will be much more easy to deal with.

That's not a problem I don't believe...tens of thousands of hot rods on the road built from various vehicles and i've never heard of anyone having a problem.
In the 70's the outfit I drove for had all 'glider' kits made from scrapped rigs...even UPS used to 'rebuild' their trucks adding new cabs, axles and other major components. the only thing left over from the original truck was the frame rails and cross members... -
This sounds like a lot of fun, I wish I had the time and space to do something like that. FWIW, I second the 3406C or later suggestion.
You might look into getting your frame from someone like this. It might save you a lot of time and headaches (and money!). -
Definatley buying a frame from a frame manufacurer. I think there's a few out West, I think PG Adams in in PA.
I guess that building a truck like this would be my way of going in a time machine and being able to spec a older truck how I'd want it, and getting it 'New' ish. -
Dont plan on making money with those gears. Your mpg is going to kill you with out an od. A local company by the name of Carlisle had trucks with 3:79's with straight 10 and od. They got at best 5 mpg, they went belly up about a year ago. People were thinking they were getting a sweet deal buying up these near new trucks. That low mpg had them immediately trying to get rid of those same trucks. Local paper was flooded with them.

as I can see differnt gear ratio trucks have different fuel efficient crusing speed. on some trucks I drive faster to save fuel, on other - slower. Lower gear ratio is good for conteiner haulers (they are heavy) ore trucking in mountanes

Read his first post it is goin to be in dump truck app. primary so i dont think 4.11 are to low from the sounds of it i dont think he's going to be puttin on serious miles so i think that mpg is down on priority

yeah, I see....

The 18 speed is going to be a overdrive. Sorry for not including that in the first post. Power Freak yes the bread and butter use of this truck is going to be pulling end dumps, belly dumps or a lowboy. With a fifth wheel unlike our current dump truck, I can hook onto say a flatbed or box van and dread I say it a reefer in the winter and still be able to make some money. As for the mountains, I live smack dab in the middle of the rockies. So mountain driving is definatley going to take place with this rig. As far as MPG, our 07 KW, Dump truck, with a 18 OD and 4.10's consistantly gets 5 or 6 mpg, and on a blue moon will touch 7 or 8, all depends on where the haul is. I know going over the road this will be much more consistant than a vocational application, but the main use of this truck will be vocational, just able to go over the road when the ground is frozen and there are no construction projects.
