If you are careful to load stop one in the back of trailer, load stop two in the middle and stop three in the front... hypothetically speaking you stand to make three trucks worth of money. Whoo hoo.
Some LTL loads could be carted in a panel van or a dually pickup. two pallets of McKesson medicine to Detriot? Load it. Ive had a full 53 footer for that. Sheesh. But they paid. And how they paid and paid and paid.
So... in the gravy. Cannot complain ya know? But there was a time or two company could have loaded something else and did sometimes. I once hauled paint in half the reefer and food in the other half. THAT was interesting.

So if nothing in rate con about exclusive use of the trailer, then it is fair game?
Thanks! -
Exclusive as in a signed contract tying you and your equiptment to the use of someone for a time period.
Just wanted to throw that out there. There is a difference between contracts and one time load hauling. -
If a Broker, or Shipper called me asking for exclusive use and I agreed to it, whether its on the rate con or not, I'm still going to honor it.
When somebody asks for exclusive use it's because they can't risk the shipment to being late.
Exclusive use should always pay a premium rate.TN_Chief Thanks this. -
Your first sentence said it all. These people that try and put two or three pieces of crap together and make something just wind up with crap in the end. I tried that route fro my first year and it's a sure fire way to stay gone forever and make little to no money, time miles, days gone and general aggravation is concerned. Now if the rate is already good and something appears en route then I may do it. But I'm semi retired now so I'm only running a few trips a month.
Having direct customers isn't much better cause they know brokers make a fee so they want it discounted off the rate. Until truckers band together we will never get rates where they should be. How about TLM for truckers lives matter ?? I don't see this as an occupation to aspire to anymore and truckers have no one to blame but themselves as they have turned into a sac-less bunch who will bend over with ease for government, brokers and shippers without even a kiss. -
My worst loads come from the dock workers dealing with the LTL stuff.
-
my worst loads were those that didn't pay a good rate on their own. I've seen to many loads turn to a loss after
a mid trip pick up would cancel or change where it wouldn't fit.
Anyone who tells me they making money that's worthwhile building loads isn't telling the truth.
Some of these so called dispatchers try and sell that game and those who fall prey within six months see the real game is them making some turd who works the load boards a paycheck.
One of my favorite lines to tell broker when they tell me "you can put something with it" well do you have that something ? otherwise it don't exist.
Broker told me a rate, with which I replied what an I going to pay myself with or buy fuel back home?
Lady laughed said no one else was smart enough to think of that.
