Your attitude makes you part of the problem.
I'm sure glad the company that hired me with a fresh felony record ( As tall as me )
Didn't feel as you do.
I've been out the system for 30 yrs now and trucking 28 of those.Prof.Gringo, Just passing by, Lab work and 2 others Thank this. -
I agree. He screwed up, got nailed for it, did his time, and it sounds like he's been keeping himself out of trouble ever since. Lesson learned.
Carolina Cargo or one of those other bottom feeder outfits will hire him. If he can grit his teeth and put up with the BS for a year or two, keep his driving record clean, and stay focused on having a better life he'll be alright.
I think he needs a break and I wish him luck.sevenmph, MidwestResident, Prof.Gringo and 6 others Thank this. -
WELL SAID..... and agreed. ^^^^^ A start is a start......fresh and renewed. I wish the O/P luck.Prof.Gringo, wore out, Lab work and 2 others Thank this.

If you’re just looking for a better paying job, go be a deckhand on a barge. They’re out typically around a month and then home for 2 weeks and it pays very well. Those jobs take on a lot of criminals society labels as “too risky” such as pedophiles since there’s no chance they’ll ever be around kids or a lot of other people in general. It’s hard work, but it pays better than most trucking jobs starting out and you can easily make $50,000+ early on and eventually keep moving up to barge operator, which pays around 80 depending on the company.
If you generally just WANT to be a trucker and it’s not solely motivated by $, just find SOMETHING and get some experience and keep your record clean, both driving and criminal. Good luck with whatever you decide...MidwestResident, mjd4277, Lab work and 2 others Thank this. -
How about a 'deck hand' on a dock somewhere? Many of us got our feet wet doing that. Not myself personally, but MANY a pal of mine sure did....could name a few on here but I won't. O/P could also get on with a port if there's one nearby, and find an O/O happenstance that might have an extra truck he needs a warm bottom in..... I see them at Toledo port every day.... or close to every. Detroit is not that far.Odin's Rabid Dog and DTP Thank this.

Allowing ex cons back in the work force is the best way of keeping them out of trouble in the future. People who feel hopeless or desperate (or bitter that their debt to society can never be repaid) are at much higher risk of re-offending.

That's a lie.
I've never even made a sppelling mistake!
So, hah!

As others have stated, a small company is probably the way to go. Most just check your driving record and if that's good your golden. Try to find one willing to train you which might be thought considering you have no experience. Also, check out 1099 outfits, for the most part they do things shady anyway so they're likely to over look such things.
Odin's Rabid Dog and G13Tomcat Thank this.
