I've heard tell of flatbedders that secure their tarps very well with rope. I have zero experience with it, but it seems like it might be more flexible. Does anybody have any pointers, or a list of knots used?
Bungies vs Rope for securing tarps?

rope, it does not hurt as much when it comes loose and hits me in the eye.

I’ve tried everything. Shock cord is my absolute favorite. It’s faster then anything else. Slides through d rings easily to maintain consistent pull force. Takes up less space then bungees and around 4 times faster. Rope doesn’t hold tension well especially if tarped cargo is soft, such as onions, bags of stuff, etc. Rubber rope holds too much tension and grips d rings too tight. It also doesn’t have good elasticity in cold weather.

I only use bungees because that’s all I know. I’ve never tried shock cord or rope and I’m afraid to try new things.

In conjunction with my post above here are picks and link to the shock cord I use if I can find it. Also helps having hooks on the trailer. I use a 30ft piece per side of a 26 ft long tarp. So a pair of tarps I use 4, 30 ft pieces.

I’ve heard that using rope or shock cord only really works with square loads. Anyone using something other than bungees with odd-shaped machinery?
When you say “rope” what exactly do you mean? Shock cord? Paracord? Braided nylon rope?
I’m currently using bungees, with paracord across the top to prevent the tarps from ballooning in open spaces along the load. Definitely open to any new ideas.PoleCrusher Thanks this.
