Ok so if I could have I would have sent you a PM asking the following but I cant yet so here goes!
Can you tell me about your 2 years prior to your decision to leave Swift?
I ask as I am about to start with them and would just like more info or an inside look
Feel free to PM as this is not a Swift Thread and I dont want to change the tone here.
Cheers.
BTW I'm Glad your doing wellLast edited: Oct 11, 2008

Well, I would be lying to you if I told you that it was all a bad experience...The best thing I had at Swift was my driver manager...He always had my back and kept me moving as much as possible.I will tell you this though....If you have experience don't go with Swift...there are other companies that will hire you..Just give it time...For one thing the trucks are too slow at 62 some of them are even down to 60 mph..Also, you are not allowed to idle more than 20% or so..If you do and get wrote up 3 times for over idling you will be terminated..Also, the company doesn't reimburse for idle air if you have to use it to stay warm or comfortable...They also have no kind of bonus program for safety or miles or passing a D.O.T. inspection nor do they have any kind of vacation time bonus either except for your yearly bonus..Here at Celadon the drivers get $1,000.00 every 30,000 miles with a week vacation..We also get a safety bonus every quarter that's paid out on your yearly anniversary date and we get raises every 60,000 miles. The raise is only half a cent but it averages out to be a penny sometime penny and a half every year. Our maintance program is also alot better then Swifts..You can see trucks of theirs going down the road with black fenders, hood and sometimes bumpers that are half missing...Here at Celadon that's not tolerated. No matter who was at fault your truck will be fixed as soon as possible and you don't have to jump through hoops of fire to get it done...Now having said all that it's up to you what you want to do....Like I said I had some really good times there but at the end of the day the bad out weighed the good and it was time to move on... I hope this helps you somewhat in what you are looking for. Happy trails and be safe out there....DirtDart Thanks this. -
I'm glad you are happy here at Celadon also...When you do get your new truck please make sure you take great care of it and treat it like you own it..Keep it clean and try to wash it at least every 3 weeks or so...Make sure that if you want to be patriotic do it in a nice fashion on the windows of your sleeper and not on the paint..The Pro-Stars are great trucks and I personally love mine..Hahahahaha....Be safe and keep on trucking!!!!! -

thanks for the info Bunny.
yeah I quit driving in 03 after driving only 6 months. I am limited on who will hire and with what requirements they have. I'm going with Swift based on their size and the fact they will take me lol.. I have a couple offers but I'm going with Swift.
I'll let folks know how it goes

I'm glad you have made up your mind, just be careful snd stay safe out on the road.. A bit of advice though, don't ever pick a company based on their size...Like the old saying goes "SIZE DOESN'T MATTER"...(get ur minds outta the gutter guys!!)It's how they treat you and respect you for what you do. The things you miss out on for the job and so forth...Make sure you get that from anywhere you go...Swift use to be bigger then what they are right now..Maybe things have changed there but i really doubt it...Just remember to give respect and courtesy just as you would want it in return but don't ever let anyone walk all over you from that place..
DirtDart Thanks this. -
Well everyone...I am still here at Celadon..Ups and downs of course...Not everything is always as it seems..I have said it several times about different companies..Not everything is how you want it to be all the time...I am still happy with the way things are going..Miles are down and so are the paychecks but that's everywhere..Other then that things are good....There are some comunication problems every so often. People not listening to what the driver has to say and so forth. People not minding their own business and starting rumors...Gossip is a big thing within the office....Sometimes it gets very annoying...Anyway, I still tell anyone that needs a job to come drive for us..We have the best company bonus program out there for drivers and our trucks are mostly 2008 and 2009 Pro Star Internationals and they run great not to mention are very comfortable...
travelfraggle, Lonesome and kingsson Thank this.
