    Good morning every one.
I loosened the cap but do I need to take it off while it earns up?

I know it won't be a true burp because I don't have a burp funnel.
    Thanks in advance?

It doesn’t need to be completely removed, but it needs to be very very loose. Enough so the air can move by it

i am not sure of the exact temp for the t-stat to open, but by at least 180 to 190..??

what you might very well have is an air lock. that would be a "bubble" that is circulating thru the system. you may want to run the engine at a higher idle, cap off, fill up coolant as needed. this can take a long time, to get that air lock (bubble) to reach the radiator.

a "trick" that car mechanics have had to do, is to jack up the front end of the car, to allow the bubble to get to the top. as it is now, as an example, your truck is "level", so that bubble (air lock) can stay there till past when the cows come home, and never get out.

what i'd suggest is, put up some thick boards, enough to raise the front end several inches, drive up on top of those boards, not the entire truck, just the steers, and go thru the high idle again, and keep filling with coolant as needed.

Well, if you are standing still, it may not get hot enough to open the thermostat, usually 195 on a diesel. The burping thing, IDK, in all my years, and that includes replacing a radiator on my Western Star, I never had to burp a system. I think maybe, the air lock is caused by something else. I'd let the coolant level drop, loosen the cap, as when it does burp, it's going to make a mess, and drive the truck around, get 'er hot. I hate to say it, but you may have other problems to cause that in the 1st place.
