    I would be doing my darndest to make my $80k truck with a fresh rebuild work for me, but if I couldn't do it, I would try selling it and buying a cheaper, older truck...... Like 1999 and older.

    Have you considered selling truck outright to one of those heavyhaul companies? They should know the value of the heavy speced truck for their operation.

    Yep you can shed some weight there. Get rid of the moose bumper, Get rid of all the hydraulics and change the front tires to 11r's, all to shed weight.

    So you would save probably 300 lbs or so on the front tires. 2-300 pounds on the bumper, depending on the size of your hydraulic tank I would say in the range of 6-700 pounds. Hydraulic oil itself is 7.2 pounds per gallon and I am assuming that you have at least a 60 gallon tank. There is also weight in the lines and PTO that can be removed.

    The other thing to look at is the fuel tanks. There is really no need to carry 300 gallons of fuel. I only carry 180 or so and that is enough to easily last me a full day of driving and I pull heavy loads 95% of the time. If you are going to Tacoma you are going to be limited to 105,500 gross anyhow. I just fuel when I stop or before I start in the morning. Changing the tanks to smaller ones is an option.

    My truck has 300 gallon capacity. I constantly switched dry van trailers. Drop/hook etc. I almost never filled my tanks to avoid an over gross problem.
    I would normally be under half capacity when I delivered, because I never knew in advance what the next load would weigh.

    Given my situation, yes I've already made up my mind. However I thought it a good Idea to get the opinions of others with more experience than I.

    Also.... Easy to say, rip off the Moose bumper... But it would cost money to replace it with a regular bumper.

    Problem not that simple.

    Credit wasn't bad... Just no credit. I didn't have anything that reported to the credit bureau till I was 27. No credit cards or anything, no house for equity..... Etc.

    Well that's just it. It's all a gamble really. There are no guarantees anywhere. However, if I keep the truck I have now, in order to not miss any payments, I would max out my credit card and credit line. That would leave me with all my bills covered. But in two months between paychecks, pulling the Rockies with a super-b, I would not have ANYTHING should something happen. No money to grab onto.

    What would I do? Leave the truck on the side of the road and walk away because I have absolute NO funds to fix it?

    Or...

    On the other hand, I trade it, and take the 20k hit in the long run, payments get differed till after the first pay, wouldn't take a hit on my credit, and I do have 10k to put my hands on if I blow a turbo or something.

    Sooo..

    In my opinion, considering that I've had 8.5k avg NET income for the last 5 months, I need to make the move. I think taking a 20k hit over the term of the new truck is the wiser choice. This allows me to make the move and keep going.
