Read all of this thread, thanks all for the great info. I haul for a local carrier (NS) and do NS to Carolinas to Ontario and home triangle. Pay is dismal at best BUT all the headaches, IFTA insurance, company fuel card with huge discounts etc are handled. Our fuel discounts alone as best i can figure are worth almost .10c a mile. What does it cost per mile, or what is it worth to have this stuff all taken care of? I have debated getting my own authority for a while now. I really would love to not go south anymore and just run east west but not sure that's possible.

Very difficult staying in Canada. Pay is decent on to ns/nb. No loads going back- all gobbled up by day and Ross or other large carriers. Pay outbound to USA is garbage also. Make money from eastern seaboard USA to Ontario and Ontario to home. Would be a challenge with your own numbers I would think. Do you see many independents?

There are independents but mostly specialized reefer, flat, step, oversize stuff. Some bulk and tank.

So I added US database on to my load link and there still arent many Ontario - U.S loads.
    I.E:
300 Radius Cincinnati OH, FTL, Dry van from Toronto 300 = 40 Loads
Vs. Coming back there are: 495 loads.

So I had 4 loads cancel on me so far. 3/4 were within 10 minutes of sending back confirmation. Reason: Load not ready for the most part. Had 1 CHR load cancelled when the truck was at the shipper waiting to be loaded because delivery was late which I did not agree to at the time of confirmation and $100 was paid out.

Is this normal or these brokers find a cheaper carrier after sending me a confirmation and cancel with an excuse?

Nice someone had a day as bad as mine. I started my day off by covering 5 produce loads and having exactly zero of them stick. 3 'sorry we already got that covered' from the customer and 2 truck fallouts in the first 30 minutes. Then my two flatbed loads got cancelled. I eventually rallied and covered a few loads of produce so the day wasn't a total loss, but I'm definitely way behind where I expected to be today. I'm still butthurt about the flatbed loads cancelling lol. I'd all but spent that money mentally. Those loads are so stable it's not even funny... At least they were until today.

So I will be heading to Connecticut for Monday delivert for the first time. New area, not looking forward it.

I gotta start booking loads earlier and not the day I want to go. Seems like next day deliveries are an issue with one truck and trailer operation.

How is everything with you @gokiddogo ?

    No I did not.

I offered him PA rate and he said okay.

Looks like nowadays what ever I offer, they accept.

The market coming back to Ontario from points north of NYC absolutely sucks

Those loads should be in the 4.00 range

If they aren't you can most times do better going in and out of pa
