To be honest. I scrimp a little on the tie downs too if I'm just moving it a handful of miles. That guy was probably just going from jobsite to jobsite. But unsafe is unsafe I suppose.

Ah, so you are saying I may be taking that out of context? If so, I retract my earlier post and offer apologies.

I can understand scrimping a bit but when I looked at his safety rating and previous DOT inspections he has a track record. When I looked him up on the FMCSA he had a total of 50 different violations with 18 OOS violations over the course of 3 inspections in 4 months.Steelhauler1246, bigguns, passingthru69 and 5 others Thank this.

No worries. If I had taken offense to something so simple I would agree that there was a lot to learn. Unfortunately there are too many officers out there that take offense to the smallest things and take it out on others with a ticket book. I try to never be one of those. If someone does succeed in upsetting me I try to take a step back and relax before proceeding.Alaska76, Steelhauler1246, bigguns and 7 others Thank this.

Which is a pretty poor record to have!
IMO you should mention that you pulled him over to find the chains were grade 43- my first thought was similar "must have some pretty impressive vision to see that at road speed" as simply another motorist.
Without that explanation makes it sound like you assumed the g43 rating & are just one of the many blow hards that come thru the forum espousing opinions claimed as fact.
Nice to see someone that recognizes that black and white aren't most of what the world is. -
What kind of officer are you? State CMV? State Patrol? County? City?bigguns, DDlighttruck, wore out and 2 others Thank this.

I can see your point. My mistake for how it was written. When I have a few more minutes I will write out how I came to this forum. It is an interesting story (at least to me).peterbilt_2005, bigguns, LoudOne and 10 others Thank this.

Here's one way to respect us.
If law enforcement feels a warning is appropriate then give us a stern verbal warning and send us on our way.
Don't give us one of those bs written warnings that we can not challenge and adds points to our csa score and then smile at us and tell us it's "just a warning". -
I agree. Of course before coming to this forum I would not have known about that. To me a warning was a warning. I never knew someone might actually use it against a driver.
You can even look back at posts I have made here where I have explained and even encouraged drivers to Dataq violations they don't agree with.
We all make mistakes. I know I have. If during an inspection you think I am wrong I am okay discussing it. When it has happened I have pulled out the code book and looked it up. When I have been wrong I admit it and thank the driver for correcting me. I know many officers will not react that way but it is how I do business.Dan.S, 1951 ford, jungledrums and 14 others Thank this. -
I would be interested to hear your story. I have a cousin that is a state trooper and we have had discussions about the views out both windshields, very interesting to hear his stories and the justifications he has heard.
