People are not buying the MC number per se. They are buying the reputation / clients that go along with said MC #.
Stuff like an established business will have lower insurance rates, have more access to brokers for better rates, etc.

I mean I guess that makes sense. But again, like I said, what about the guy starting out fresh with only one truck? Is this even necessary or beneficial? What if say, you can get business door to door?
