From what I've been seeing, nearly every Volvo dealership also services Mack.... But I despise Vulvas, so I haven't been paying a huge amount of attention.

Mack service isn't hard to find. Yes parts cost more, but it is what it is. No aero trucks are not the same. You can say what you want but a W900 rides better than a T680, 660, 700, 600 etc. Same with the Pete's. The quality of build is not as good on the aero trucks. The materials and parts are not the same. Weigh a classic truck and weigh an aero truck.

No I do not live in Cali, but I believe taking a huge market out of your business options doesn't make a lot of sense. At least not for me. I live on the east coast and grabbing a load to Cali and back is generally more profitable than anything else.

I didnt say Mack service was hard to find. Its easy to find service for anything these days. But lets compare... I live in central Ohio and own a cummins powered Prostar and half interest in a Detroit powered Classic XL. Without looking I can tell you for certain there is one Mack dealer and three volvo dealers within a 50 mile radius of my home. So there are 4 known places to work on your Mack engine that will also have the correct diagnostic equipment, and be expected to have experience. My trucks can be worked at any dealership, period. Plus bridgeway cummins in columbus for the prostar. Within 15 miles I have 5 dealership and a rush service center. One local independant will not touch a mack or volvo. Now go break down in central colorado, utah, nevada, etc. There's no comparison.

So plastic trucks are built with inferior frame rails, axles, steering gear, etc... well Ive learned two things from you...

Garazi well if the profits out weigh the highly possible down time and when i say down time i dont mean a few hrs..Then get what your bank book allows..
I will tell you though, finding a company that will put up with late deliverys on a fairly freq basis cause of mechanical is gettin harder by the day..There are people with decient luck with emmission trucks but more with little to no luck..Thousands of $$ monthly spent on repairs, down time and or truck rental to keep load moveing...Maybe buy two trucks, one premission for all of usa and one emmission trk for cali only..Do your research before you buy..Talk to company drivers and ask their thoughts, listen to the mechanics at stealerships maybe if you have yet to do it get sirius/xm and listen to the truckers channel and some of their call in shows, hear their point of views..

I understand the issues that come with emissions trucks. I had both a 660 and a 680 with it and haven't had any problems. Most people never have the filter serviced and the system looked over. People will change their oil and filters, change their fuel filters, grease their trucks and forget about the DPF system. I understand some people don't want to deal with it, but how about when other states start adopting CARB? It's only a matter of time. Also, idling an emissions truck is pretty much guaranteeing issues. Until people realize that we will continue to see the same issues.

I don't think 2 trucks is the answer. I believe the better course of action is to make sure to have a very healthy truck account to sustain breakdowns. It doesn't matter what the cause of the breakdown is, but anyone that can't sustain their household for a couple months without working should probably consider making a bigger contribution to their trucking account.

Man, I don't know what your talking offense to. I started by saying that 50k on a truck with over 600k miles is to much. There are better deals out there than that. If you disagree then you disagree.

I also believe that the classic trucks are built better than the aero trucks. There are many others that do as well. If you disagree then you disagree.

You continue to drive your international and I'll continue to drive my Mack.

Gen 1 PACCARS use the Holset aftertreatment system licensed from Cummins. DAVIE4 is a much different - and much less widely available - software. Right off the bat, I'd ensure all software is updated and current, both with DAVIE4 and ESA.
Belt tensioners and water pump seals are the recurring issues which come to mind on these. Both are pretty easy fixes. I also love how much easier it is when you need to replace a fan clutch on a PACCAR vs. a Cummins.
They use a suspended canister for the secondary fuel filter - be very careful installing it, and have a good strap wrench handy to take it off, because it's like they self tighten. At the top of the housing, there's a plug you can loosen with… I wanna say a 12mm wrench… when you prime the system. Do this, make sure you're getting fuel coming out.
Primary filters, that proprietary PACCAR filter and the 25 micron Davco seem to hold up the best. 10 micron Davcos and those large 7 micron Davcos that are supposed to be good for 100k do not, from my experience.
