I was looking online there at Facebook pages where people are selling their MC number and USdot. Is it legal to buy them? Has anyone gone through the process and could shed some light on how it’s done?
Buying and already active MC# and US dot?

I get calls on mine every now and then. I hang up on them but I am kind of curious what they are worth.
Anyone know? What's a clean 5+ year old MC/DOT worth in the open market?Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
It all depends on one thing - if it is in someone's name or if it is a company that can be sold.
I would not buy if it is someone's name, but if I can buy the entire company, then it is usable once the officers are changed.
Just because it is clean doesn't mean it is usable right out the door.
Others can tell you why.LoneRanger and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
I almost sold mine for $5000. Glad I didn’t. Been in Business since 2004. 6 digit mc. Older than the 3 companies I’ve worked at in the last 2 years. Excellent safety rating. I might sell the Truck and Authority together. I’d have to reactivate it first, maybe fix the Truck up a bit. Maybe run it a while first. I too wonder what it’s worth. $35k for Truck is fair. Right now probably be hard to sell either . Meanwhile I’m Driving a company Truck. Flat broke, but slowly getting out of debt. Halfway there. Doesn’t look like I’m missing out on much. I’d like to sell my trailer. It’s probably best used as a storage trailer. Might be worth $3k probably less.

If your numbers were active with a clean record and a couple good inspections..it’s probably worth 30-40k
My 7 digit numbers and corporation was getting buyers interest at $30kLoneRanger and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
It's useless to buy an MC now, Highway would put a red flag if there is any ownership change and brokers would not give loads to new owners.
There is a way around it, new owners ask the old one to stick around, but a lot of times they do fraud and screw over the old ownerKDHCryo, Opendeckin, 86scotty and 2 others Thank this. -
Hadn’t heard that one before..good to know.
Amazon supposedly doesn’t work with numbers that changed hands either but, the majority of buyers are looking for one set up with Amazon..
I really don’t know what the deal is with Highway because they have never asked me for ID or access to my elog…what gives?Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Any phone, e-mail, address change flags it in every clearance program.86scotty, Rideandrepair and Concorde Thank this.

I’ve heard of adding them as a partner, then dropping out after a year. You’d have to really trust someone, or actually be a partner for one year. Main objective is keeping low insurance rate.
