I appreciate the lessons. I had it coming.

There are times I am dense. I rather have a go and fail and get up and get another go at it.

Sometimes I think if I cannot drive a big truck because I got a wore out body, at least my mind should still be sharp enough to have a go at buying say 5 identical tractors, find people and papers to fill em, grab some fuel and get after loads to run. Everything else should fall into place or get beaten into place....

I am not an O/O but my father is and I been working in the trucking industry for years. In my opinion, one of the biggest issues I see (and its very repetitive) is that guys like to buy their own truck and they get a sense of relief. They come from being a driver where they kicked butt and when they buy their own truck they feel like now they can kick back and relax. Far from the truth! You have to realize that this is your business now and you have to treat it as one. You have a truck payment, trailer payment/rent, fuel, insurances, ect and money management is #1, Poor money management with bury you in debt and owing companies money which they start deducting from your paychecks with interest and take you under even more. Becoming an O/O is a great step to take but know that its not easy!

Learn how to be a mechanic and software engineer... Oh, you will need tools, electrical know how, and be able to diagnose issues on the road. If you are going to depend on a warranty to save your rear end you will be out of business in short order. Also, you will need to be up on the emission systems, which are the cause of many financial problems O/O face out here. They are very expensive to maintain and few shops are able to dig down deep enough to discover the real issue giving you problems. They like to replace Turbos and EGR Coolers when what you really need is a $40 sensor and internal soot cleaning.

You want to just write me a cheque for $30,000? I could really use the money. I could put it to better use than you just throwing it down the drain.

    Justrucking2 and Jestrada0404 Thank this.
