paccar technology has been around in europe a while too -
Depends on the work I'm doing, if I'm just running a flatbed up and down I5 I see 9 mpg loaded 11 mpg empty. It's only running around the city of San Francisco up and down steep hills in traffic with an end dump where my average speed is 20mph or less for the day that the mpg drops. Iv seen it at just under 6 once but that was a severe haul with no speed and a lot of idle time.
I work local in the city 95% of the time pulling an end dump or lowbed, my trucks computer says its total average since new says 7.2 mpg. Show me any manufacturer that can match that! -

The idea that a Cummins can be worked on by just about any shop is a complete myth. It may have been the case 10 years ago but today's engines are just way too sophisticated for any shop other than a franshised dealer or factory authorised service provider. Whichever you choose, the cost of repairs is going to be high as new technology is always more expensive. So I would base my decision on which engine/tranny combination is the most efficient for my operation. The D13/I Shift is credited worldwide as being a superb combination. IT IS the most efficient power and driveline combination on the market today.
I run the d12/freedomline setup, which I consider the d13/I Shift predecessor. We get 7.5 mpg to 8.3 mpg consistently and when it comes to trade in my 780 I will opt for d13 with I Shift. IMHO the Volvo product is just better engineered that it's competitors.
They all breakdown. It doesn't matter what label or badge it wears.Foxcover Thanks this. -

I got my last truck from Arrow; they are dealers, doing some make up, new brakes, tires, limited warranty, offer financing from Volvo but..... imop are expensive.
Buying used trucks with limited warranty is lottery, and from Arrow you pay more for ticket. Take your time shop around, get financing from your bank with lower %, and check craiglist, auto-trader should find same truck for 5-15,000$ less from private sellers/owner operators with better maintenance record, or maybe take over the lease.
here is an example , well i'm in Ontario, Canada;
Volvo 780, 2009, 545k, D13, Ishift , this guy is asking 52,000cad, for about same truck you got at Arrow for 69,000USD.(1.03CAD=1usd) http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...eavy-trucks-Volvo-780-2009-W0QQAdIdZ472123077Last edited: Apr 21, 2013
