unless the company reimburses me for the locks they sure arent getting them back....Its just like my load locks...I prefer the ones that have jack handles on them..company provides the cheap flip lock ones which hardley work anyway....so when i am parked on the yard MY load locks go home with me in the back of my pickup...

Most of the time, the money for the locks is reimbursed when you leave, as long as you turn them in to the correct department. With other companies, the locks are yours.

Schaeffer or Crete wants you to have the good door and kingpin lock. They'll buy them back if you quit. So you can buy a new or used set when you get your own truck. They're tax deductible.
Most companies have orientation after you finish with the trainer. Good luck to you

Thanks everyone. Obviously, I'm new to all of this and I was just wondering if this was standard procedure with other companies -- apparently it is.

    Thanks!

What happened to cable locks. If I was a thief Id steak the trailer in 30 seconds, lock or no lock.

The king pin lock they use is not some cheap cast iron thing from a truck stop. it is soled steel. would cost $80-100 if you could find one in a truck stop. You can not break it by backing into it or with anything less then a blow torch.

the door lock is a peace of metal that goes around both door handles and and steel lock. not some cheap master lock that can be cut with a bolt cutter. You can not pick the lock nor cut it with bolt cutters. Cost $75-90.

when you leave the company you can get the $160 back if you turn the locks back in. i kept mine because you will never find better ones.

Might be justified at that description.

But, I rarely drop the trailer except at their yard. I leave it hooked to the tractor when at home.

Most of the time, I have the trailer just sealed. Never have worried about the freight except when high dollar.

No locks are going to stop a determined thief.

When I hauled for TJ Maxx they thought they were real slick with security . They even made the carrier put welds on hinge bolts . So one Sunday when security was checking the weld and seals I said "You know , all somebody has to do is pop the bolt off the door handle where it attaches to the door and the seal and lock are useless ." He stood there staring at it a minute then got on the radio . I'm sure he got credit for finding that weak link in their security .

    Roadmedic Thanks this.
