Maybe. A friend of my brother’s sold his W9 a few months ago and bought a new 389 flattop in OKC. He put less than 10k miles on it and sold it to High Pressure out of Kingfisher OK, said it was the worst truck he ever had. So maybe the 389 is just very hit and miss now.

Wow, only 10k miles? What were the issues with it? I bought mine from Peterbilt Steve and he said they cannot get them in fast enough as nearly everything they have is sold... Maybe the demand for them is so high, that Peterbilt is pushing them out the door to fast?

I've had a couple issues with mine, so I won't say it has been 100% problem free but, as far as the rattling issue I have 0. I always compare this truck to driving a Cadillac, thats how smooth and quiet it is.

Even with the issues I've had, if I do buy another truck, a 389 it will be....

389s are great trucks. Never had any issues or noise complaints. Same for the W900. As you stated, Steve and others can't keep them in stock long enough. Slightly frustrating that there isn't an option anymore with the dash but it really doesn't bother me. I was looking to buy a 389 in August/September this year and the dash hasn't changed my opinion. Did Steve do right by you? I haven't used him but I see he seems to have his ducks in order.

My focus is W900s, 389s and 579s in my neck of the woods. No more rattles or "noises" in one model over the other. Guys may have a preference but I honestly never hear from anyone 99% of the problems trucks have on the internet in real life.

Steve did me right, definitely have nothing but positive things to say about dealing with him. If/when I'm ready to buy another, I will be a repeat customer of his.

I'm the same way with the dash, it won't be a deal breaker. My in dash touch screen navigation/radio now will freeze up occasionally or just go completely black, the fix for that is to pull the fuse, then push it right back in. Problem solved. Hopefully the new digital dash if it does have issues, they are as minor.

Thank you on the info. Good luck with your 389, they are great trucks, tools, offices and home away from homes.

Here’s from back in Nov when he listed it with 5k miles on it. I don’t talk to him personally, all he told my brother is he hated it and hated driving it and it was a pile of crap. My brother told him before he bought it that he would regret giving up a W9 for a Pete.

Personally, the main difference I notice on my 579 compared to a small cab truck is the door seals. And the cab is pretty quiet even compared to all the Kw’s I’ve driven over the years.

I'm truly trying to think how I would hide my facial reactions and comments to the following story in real life.

Soooo, you sold your beloved W9 and bought a pink/purple 389....

Then after putting one's self in 150K of debt.......

    on a pink/purple truck......

Tried to sell it with 5K in miles on it.

Seems like the problem wasn't the W900 or 389.............
