To the outsider, perhaps. To those of us who work within this sector of the trucking industry though, there are fairly profound differences between the different companies.

XPO does have those as well, but I don’t know if they go as far as Saia with their bluetooth and CB bans.

I'll say. But one things for sure, they all got RULES. And lots of them.
I worked in LTL in management for 20+ years. I'd never do it as a driver now.
On the other hand, I don't have a bunch of obligations at home either.

If you're a young person looking for something that gets you home every DAY and pays well above the industry average, LTL is your best choice. Hands down.
However, always remember that there is a trade off to everything.

Estes and R&L seem to be pretty good as far as that is concerned.

I actually applied to Estes last year sometime. I got past the interview and was scheduled for a driving test until I received a letter stating that I didn't disclose a traffic violation so they rejected me. I admit I didn't because I thought it was out of the 3-year threshold. I've learned my lesson and I put it on everything I apply for now as it was just a failure to maintain lane in personal vehicle. I should be able to apply again now though and secure the job; what position do you recommend? LTL?

    FlaSwampRat Thanks this.

Estes is all LTL. However, as I understand it, there are actually 3 driving positions.....
Pick up and delivery (P&D), local line haul (home every day), and regional line haul (running wild, home every weekend....might be a team operation as well).

Local line haul is probably the one I'd desire the most. I don't mind the physical aspect of the position at all as I'd like to stay in shape anyway. Hopefully they'll put a position up soon though.
