$400 to turn a C-15 BACK to 475hp after some body thought detuning it to 435hp was going to improve their MPGs.

That's the dealers fault for not calling in to the Cat hotline and explaining that the engine was a 475. I have had no problem returning engine to original state before, dealer sounds lazy or they just pocketed the money.

    Now that is interesting!
Recently had my truck at the local Unnatural dealer, and was told by the shop foreman in a bs session, that to turn up my truck by flashing it, would run anywhere from $500 to $1500, for Cat to write a program, plus the computer time to download it. I was wondering how they could justify that!

I have never had trouble derating and then rerating non Acert C15s engines and have never been charged, if they are returning to a horsepower level the engine was previously rated too they are not charged by the Cat password system (when you punch the numbers in to the password site it warns you that you are going to be charged and tells you how much).
However.... this may be changing as Cat have figured out that since they banned us from putting in hot fuel settings (that dont match cat records for that performance spec) what has been happening is people derate and then rerate engine as it gives you one free shot at changing the fuel settings to whatever you like.
I have recently had trouble using this method on new Acerts (new to us January 2008), if you estimate the rerate (a feature of the password site) it says the cost is $2500 USD, but I have only come across this on Acerts so far.
Cat spoils all our fun :(

LOL i was refering to porn, and no there is really no way of getting it without paying. Theres a few guys i know of that have the ability to do this and im sure they wouldnt give ya the password for free. One of them is on this site, he may help ya with a flash but you gota pay to play. :biggrin_25525: I have some high powered codes in mind i could give ya but you will need a big turbo for them, how you put them in the ecm is up to you though.

Thanks for the info. It looks like my new truck will be either a 02 or 03 KW with a C-15. It is set at435. I may run it for a while to see how it does. This will be first big truck (I own). Will be pulling a 51' step deck.
I may be asking about codes soon.
    Thanks again

The EPA has something to do with it as well. None of the engineers and companies would blow money on redesigns as often as they do, if it wasn't being mandated by the gov't. :biggrin_25516: Same goes for the mileage. I'm sure they'd MUCH rather have better performing engines and improve efficiency, vs the emissions BS. That is why Cat is leaving the OTR truck market as they are. Nothing else. The dam gov't!

Now, as to the topic at hand that started this thread. We have an ISX and a C15. The Jakes on my C15 work better than the one on the ISX. And, both are FAR better than the ones on a C12.
