Thought id revive this thread with a few questions. And dds i havent had a chance to call lately but thought id let you know the progress on my small dilemma. Had mbn ecm flashed to 600 file and 5232 codes. been pulling super B trains (140'000lb) w/ it for about 30000km and have been driven crazy w/ egt's. one day i can keep my foot welded to the floor and wont climb over 1100. this is keeping the rpm over 14-1500. the next day or sometimes this is hour to hour i cant climb the slightest grade w/out it trying to fly past 1200. thought it was ambient air temp but the other day I 15 north of helena MT i climbed a 5 mile hill at about 1800rpm and 1100 deg max and it was ##### hot outside. i have climbed the same hill on a way cooler day and had to drop 3 gears to keep it down in egt's. water temp not too bad so far.
And odd thing w/ jake as well. sometimes descending a good hill i can run the rpm between 1500-2100 and never touch 18psi the next time it sounds different and more solid and i have seen almost 22psi at 1700. the waste gate seems to move freely so im at a loss. it does seem that when the exh temps are down i see 2 psi or so higher boost. my kw gauge flutters so bad its hard to tell but it does seem a little higher. sorry im so long winded. thanks guys

Different boost under jakes sounds like a wastegate sticking open or damage to the wastegate button, could also be an air filter or intake pipe sucking in causing intake restriction.
The wastegate can stick when they're hot but move freely when cold. -
I would try unhooking the waste gate to see what happens. Mine started to go bad about 3 weeks ago and I finally figured out that is was the problem last week. After running through all kinds of different tests and inspections I found that it was opening way early (about 30psi).

Hey w900b, Have you pulled the turbo yet and checked the housing. It maybe damaged from the mbn flash. Have you gone for drive with a laptop yet? You may have a atmosphric pressure sensor acting up.
Sorry guys, I have not had much time to help out on this forum lately, I have been really busy with work and trying to get my truck built for the rodeo du camion next weekend. Hope to have the engine running today. I attached a photo, I have not got it cleaned up yet or installed the new bumper.Attached Files:

The truck is looking good so far and no reason to apologize. We all have our work and hobbies that we get wrapped up in. Best of luck with the rodeo and let us know how ya do.

DDS i didnt get a chance yet to get the et program on it and run it. I will test the waste gate to see if it is in fact opening too soon. hope not it is next to new but you never know. and i had the ecm flashed basically within hours of the new turbo so it shouldnt be damaged. And what is too hot on the exhaust. i generally back out around 1100 but if it will pull a hill and maintain 1100 i usually let it. What is everyone else letting thiers run at? thanks oh, and where is the atmospheric temp sensor located?

Mine did the same and it was always the wastegate actuator.....

Good to hear from ya DDS keep us updated on the build. -
