    C-16 and 15.8 3406E liners are thinner than a 14.6 E model and C-15 liners. Block needed decked.

    The bigger bore engines were known to have liner issues because of the thinner wall.

    That's what I've heard too. The large displacement E models and C-16's had the thinner liners creating the issues. I've read the argument that guys going after big power will just give a 14.6 liter motor a tune up, as they're the same blocks, Cat just took some real estate from the liners to make power on factory tuning.

  3. 14.6 and the 15.8 (c-16) are the same except for the crank stroke c-16= 6.75 14.6= 6.5. The c-16 pistons are a few mm larger so the liners are a few mm thinner. Injectors are the same head and block are the same. Turbo is a little larger on c-16. Liner issues were the same as a 14.6 not enough clamp force. they would fret (walk around in counter bore) and crack liner flange. Thinner spacerplate or counter bore cut solved the issue, as in any 3406.

    No, most will start using the acert 15.2 assembly.

    5.7” bore liner on left, 5.4” bore on right, you can see how little there is for head to clamp down on with the C18 liner.
