I read an article in the Jan. 6, Salt Lake Tribune where CR England is quoted as saying that they hope to reduce their 150% turn over rate by increased rail shipping, allowing drivers to deliver locally and stay close to home. I wonder if drivers agree with this outcome. Also, doesn't an increase in rail shipping mean a loss of trucking jobs? Just curious to hear feedback from the pros in the know. Thanks.

I don't understand how a 150% turn over rate is possible. If you have a 100% turnover rate then ALL your drivers that start turn around and leave. How can it be any higher? Don't get me wrong... I started with England and hate them with a passion... but that number is not possible.
-
Maybe it means that 75% of the drivers that leave the first time, come back a second time, then leave again.
-
Gee, I have a suspicion that they will have drivers do the local work, but pay them on the OTR theory. I am sure they will come up with a fancy name like Enhanced Small Jurisditional Relocation and Logistical Specialist.
Yep, might be a loss in trucking jobs or either a lot of trucks sitting.scottied67 Thanks this. -
If they just paid the drivers well and treated them with respect.........

More like if their fleet requires them to have a given number - say 10,000 - of drivers on the road at any one time, then they'd run 15,000 drivers in and out the door every year.

The cold truth is that it is not a trucking-logistics company's role to keep drivers employed, it is to get freight to the destination on time. If there is a more efficient way to do this than a truck they will use it. Not just CR but all companies are in the freight/logistics biz to turn a profit.scottied67 Thanks this.

does a high turnover not cost them more?

Some kind of new math that CRE uses for everything.

Do you think that they will have teams man these trucks so that they can split the 83 miles that they average a day?
scottied67 and AfterShock Thank this.
