I work for Schneider, and had gaps in my work history and the recruiter told me on the phone not to worry about it and they still hired me
C.R. England sent me home day before CDL Test.

It's not a company option but a federal regulation that they gather this info.
If you don't have solid proof there are things you can do like get a notarized statement from a neighbor that knew your situation or pretends to know. Maybe say you worked as a laborer for a home builder. Many of them are informal as far as a business office. Give them a friends phone number and let him act like your boss. There would probably be a form email or faxed that he would have to sign.
All the FMCSA wants to know is that you haven't had a CDL before. Back in the old days a driver would lose his CDL and go to the next state and get another one. That or he would omit that job he got fired from after he ran over a family of four.
Concentrate on getting things in order for your work history and then the rest is a breeze. -
You did nothing wrong but you'll find many posts on TTR of those not as lucky as you have been with regard to work history. Why they cut some slack but enforce their rule on others is a question I want an answer to from the carriers. -
So since I already know the pre-trip, air brakes, backing maneuvers, and road skills. Would you each suggest either I A. Take the cdl skills test or B. Enroll in another school locally.

What is your plan after you get your CDL? Drive for your gramps, a large carrier, or what?
