If I remember right, there is also a C&S over around Chester, NY somewhere... Now I did not like this particular one. They were rude and slow there. And we did not have the drop and hook option at this one. but there was a big dirt trailer lot out front I parked in several times.

C&S in harrisburg,pa is a joke

the only c&s i have ever been to is the one in birmingham. i drop 4 skids of every other week. the lumpers there want $180 to break these down and that particualr shipper only pays $80 bucks. granted the break down is about 18-20 pallets. i figure if i do it myself it will go quicker anyway. kinda made friends with one of ther receivers so i get my stuff checked quick. other than that(and the usual attitude like u get at most of these places)its a ok place to go.

Worst one ever has to be in Brattleboro VT, I spent 2 1/2 days there, yeah I said days, not hours. I arrived real late on a Friday night well closer to Saturday morning for a 0500 appt and was told "Go down to the bullpen and we'll call you on the radio" said it would be a couple hours as they were on limited staff and had to get the reefers out, understood as those are time sensitive loads.
Well I fell asleep and the next thing I know it's 1330 on Saturday and I'm still sitting, been about 8 hours now. So I walk over to the restroom/vending island to get on the horn to the guard shack to see if I missed my call, shack says no we're waiting on a door to open meanwhile all doors are open. So I go back and wait and fall asleep again. This time I awoke and it's now 2200 and I repeat the process. I forgot to mention that I repeatedly notify the weekend dispatcher that I'm getting angrier by the minute with this ridiculous wait and get a reply that they can't be reached by phone.
Well after a rousing bout of I didn't miss it again i go back to sleep again and awake at 0700 on Sunday. This time around I call and no answer from the guard, so I walk up to the building to find it locked up nobody around. So now I'm mega pissed I get on the qualcomm and tell the dispatcher to repower or find me another load. Of course at this point I can't because it's Sunday and nothing else seems to be open in New England on Sundays either so I take matters into my own hands and dock the load. Well low and behold bright and early at 0001 on Monday during my snooze I get a knock from the guard asking why I'm docked and I proceed to explain the deal and am told "I'm so sorry to hear that we didn't know anyone was in the dry bullpen" Well I blow my cap at that point and I went in and unloaded the trailer myself and left the skids right in the middle of the lane. The supervisor on the dock had a fit and I told him to get bent, I got my bills signed and told the window the same and left.
Got a phone call from my dispatcher the next morning asking why I was asked not to return to C&S Brattleboro and I told her how I'd been sitting since Saturday morning. She promptly agreed after I told her the story and fixed me up with a sweet 1200 mile run from Vermont to Alabama to make up for it.
Long story short, I got boned hard sorry for the long winded story -
Next time just call the U.S. Marshalls and the black helicopter and 12 black cars will show up in 10 minutes. -
Brattleboro, vt is the worst. The lumper fee is ridiculous, they are rude, and they take forever! If you have to go here figure on spending the day. The fist time I went the lumper was $589.00.

Like i said on another thread i was a shipper/receiver for a grocery warehouse.
And the awful story's i heard from the drivers (some where just #####ers)
One thing i away's agreed with all the drivers was the subject of lumpers.
I mean they would make a deal with drivers ,such as getting them in early, and the load needed to be broke down (when it was to be put in the bulk) and the list goes on .
It pissed me off also they drew a check from the goverment, and made sometimes $1500.00 a week from scamming drivers.
I even exposed them to the manager (who drove for 20 years) and guess what i was the trouble maker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My only advise is to ask the manager (if you can) or the receiver.
And then some lumpers have receivers in their pockets.
These fees which i have heard $400 for a full truck is bull, and if they will pay it make sure you get a real name and ss# and if they dont agree with it call the company and they will call the higher ups to see what the problem is.
But anytime you have a grocery warehouse to unload at try your best to
get along ,esp if its a regular stop.Hell you may make some contacts?
Hell i had drivers call me up and have me look at my paper work to see what needed done to it so the lumpers couldnt make it out to be the load from hell.
Funny story i had a 7am straight off load and the lumpers charged the driver $100 for a break down.I had already talked to the driver and the driver told the manager that i wanted to speak to him.
So they both came to me and (lumpers where scared) and asked me if load needed broke down, and i said everybody knows this is a bulk load(no breakdown)
So the manager told the driver to keep the money
There has to be something that can be done,i don't care to work but their is to much power being put into grocery warehouse's hands
And as far as the warehouse employee's everybody should be treated like they would be treated. -
I waited ther one time and i toild them to get busy on it..they did cause they didnt want the load inb the lot..

had the joys of deliverying to Chester NY....only decent person there was the security guard at the gate....everyone else short, rude, uninformative, and then get mad when you do not understand a finger point.
then they all had to attend a Dinner Safety meeting at 10pm, which lasted until 11pm.
And NO place to left to park, and would not allow a truck to stay after empty, as they are expanding. -
I know this is an old thread but i have to add my 2 cents. I worked for the trucking company that pulled for C&S for 10 years. the shipping end is no better then the receiving end. I have waited hours for loads to be ready. they also have some of the worst loaders. most loads end up on the floor before they leave the yard. Anyway I could go on all day. I will say it is one of the worst jobs I had in 18 yrs
