So did you guys have to pay Drivers Solutions to help you get into training? I heard that it was $200 and I should skip it and just ask the companies myself. Whats's your thoughts?

i think some of you who went to the school middle of this year may of been with my class i was driveing a red dodge with a lightbar on it for the fire dept

If you people want a 3 week crash course in truck driver training....go ahead waste your money. You will not get the preparedness you need at this place. Yes the bigger companies will hire you. But honestly, how much training can one person get in 3 weeks?
Diesel Driving Academy out of Louisiana & Arkansas, is one the tops in the nation as far as quality training and instruction.
Good Luck to all you soon to be rookies.
PS. don't let those seasoned vets give you a hard time out there on that big road....shoot they had to learn somewhere!
whoop & ride rod knockersmissdonna Thanks this. -
STP im with you after being there i would tell some one to trying thing other then them did not get the help i need or the one on one time i need with them just a driver mill had one guy bring his own bathtal with him and it end up in the room next to his seemed like the stuff was not clean just move it to anothe room

Parallel parking was my undoing. For a mill this place was a great school and I don't many excuses for my failure. Im on the verge of getting CDL at a local school for me in N.J. Theres things I liked more about C-1 and things I like more here. Overall I had a good experience with the staff, they had to let me go but, seemed to really care about their students.
The school Im at now students our here for an average of 2 months. My experience at C-1 has helped me a lot at my new school. The instuctors here are impressed with my road skills and now Im honing my alley docking skills that are more relavent than paraellel IMO.

I know... I know.. I'm very late to the post...
I'm supposed to be scheduled @ C1 in Little Rock, Arkansas for Feb. 6th. I have a few questions to anyone who's been to C1, and got their CDL through C1's training.
I initially tried to get a pell grant to go to my local community college, but alas, they do not accept any type of federal financing. it's an 8 week program, but IDK how well they train there honestly. The graduate rates are in the low 20% for that school, not that this applies to the commercial truck driving course, but is a good overall indicator that something is not very good with this community college. Nearest community colleges with commercial truck driving courses are not located near me, and getting the right people on the phone to discuss financial aid for the course proved to be very difficult.
So, I did exactly what I DID NOT WANT TO DO, which is get sponsored by a company to get trained and drive for them on contract or agreement.
I applied to many places like Schneider, Stevens, CRST, KLLM, TMC, Werner, USA Truck, US Express, Prime, Swift, CR England, Willis Shaw, FFE, ROEHL, and a few others.. but with my background, most of the giant companies won't touch me.
I have 2 DUI's from back in 2001 when I was 21 years old, and I got them back to back because I was immature, not responsible, careless, and literally had no business driving whatsoever. I deserved every bit of what I got out of those situations. I have quit drinking altogether, it's just nothing but trouble and I had to face the fact that I am an alcoholic who cannot drink responsibly, and its best if I quit while I'm ahead.
After my license was reinstated, I have kept my DMV record clean, other than a few minor traffic tickets over 5 years ago. No felonies.
Anyhow, Driver Solutions was the first to respond to me about qualification, although Willis Shaw did contact me, but said they are not hiring out of my location.
After the Drivers Solutions recruiter had me agree to terms, ran my background and everything, she told me I was qualified with PAM Transport and congratulated me. But I am still highly concerned, because although she stated in plain english that she did run my background check, she asked me for the dates and years of my DUI's that I listed on my application. I simply said, "I do not remember the dates, and I have no records of them". She said to just go ahead and guess the dates for her, and she put down something like May-2001 and November-2001. So that makes me very skeptical that I do qualify with PAM.
I'm going to call C1 first thing Monday morning and see if I can get someone to make absolutely sure I do qualify with PAM before I make the trip to Arkansas(worried about being told to pack my stuff and head back home).
I can pass the DOT physical and screening with no problems, I have no health issues and don't use drugs so this part doesn't concern me at all except that I do not know if the DOT physical/screening fees are covered in my tuition or if I need to pay for it upfront. (DOT physical/screening fees don't seem to be listed on Driver Solutions account page anywhere, or I'm overlooking it.)
I'm also thinking I should get in contact with PAM directly and discuss all this over with someone there officially. To my understanding, I wouldn't be pre-hired until after my DOT physical and screening, but still, I would like a little more clarity on their minimum qualifications.
CRST is calling me now, but I already know I don't qualify with them because they require no DUI's in the past 15 years or something like that. Plus, I don't think I can afford to make the trip to Iowa if that's where their training location is. But I will most likely call them back Monday just to see what they have to say.
CR England has been emailing me daily too, but I've heard nothing but bad things about them, and I don't think I could afford to make that trip either. Seems like Texas would be the closest training location to me.
The things I've read in this thread seem sort of mixed, some are ok with how C1 is, and some aren't... thats what makes America what it is... you don't like it, then go choose something different! For me, i'm not crazy about having everything crammed in on me in 3 weeks, but from my understanding the instructors will continue to work with you if you need help after class hours, which is a good thing.
I could care less about hotel accommodations, if its a roof over my head, and a bed with covers/sheets and pillow, a shower with clean towels and rags... then I'm ok with it. A little fridge to keep some food and drinks in would be nice, I could care less about T.V. I'm not there to sit on my butt and watch T.V. I'm there to get a start in my career. I don't need a 5 star hotel, a 4 star, or 3 star... that's a want, not a need. Long as I get what I need I'm cool with it.
All this being said, I am willing to do what it takes to get started in the industry, because I've let too much time in my life pass by with nothing to show for it. The time has come for me to make a big change and do something more useful and productive while I'm still breathing. i'm burdening everyone in my life including family and friends with having no secure job and always "needing" something and not being able to fully provide for myself.
I apologize for the extremely long post, I have a problem with listing important things and cutting out non-important things for short hand writing, I do the same thing when I talk verbally too!
Like I stated earlier, I will be contacting C1 first thing Monday morning. But until then, could some of you knowledgeable people who have attended C1 try answering a few of my questions?
Is the fee for the DOT physical and screening covered in the tuition?
Anyone have any info on PAM Transport's official minimum qualifications?
And, how much is the HazMat endorsement?
Thanks a bunch!
