That is what I figured as well... I ran out of fuel once in my pick-up because of a "box". The truck thought I had another 75 miles before empty and the #### gauge was just below 1/4 mark!!!
I digress... -
I just want to say thank you again to everyone's willingness to help. All the information I can gather surely helps in this process.
Yesterday I received a copy of the engines serial number and then took it to Fabick. It turns out this engine had extended warranty to 500K and Feb/09. It now has 750,###. Anyway the CAT guy was helpful and printed out CAT's info on this engine and there are only two entries.... IS THIS POSSIBLE? Actually one of the entries just happened at the selling dealership, it was an ECM update. The other was back in the summer of '08 and that did not show a "part causing failure". They told me what it was but it slipped my mind and was nothing of importance. I have group numbers if they have any meaning to anyone.
Mr. Hanely... my question is this. Is is possible this ECM was re-programed (reason for 5+ MPG) due to a re-flash or do you know of an update that CAT recently put out there?
Thanks again! -
Entirely possible. The '03 bridge I've got has only been to Cat to have the overhead ran, A re-flash for fuel mileage and to be uprated to 525hp. Other than that it's been problem free. Only complaint I hear from the driver is it runs like #### when the valves need adjusted, I believe it has just over 500k miles. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.Turn3 Thanks this.

Yes the ECM could have been reflashed to an updated file this could very well be the reason for better fuel mileage than average. This will still be a bridge motor file though, I think you'd be happier with an earlier 6NZ 550 file in the truck.Turn3 Thanks this.
-
I agree, the 550 hp file can give you 550 hp to the wheels, The 600 hp file can give you 600 hp to the wheels, but power drops off after 1700 from the MBN camshaft like Mr. Haney said. The MBN injectors seen to max out at about 32 gallons an hour, Like a 57Turn3 Thanks this.

Thanks for the information again.. everyone is a big help.
Another question that came to mind... if this truck works out and I get the ECM re-flashed how crucial is it to get ride of the cat mufflers? I am thinking ECM right away and wait a couple of weeks before upgrading the exhaust system. That could be a big chunk of change?
Now it is coming down to just hearing back from the insurance company to get their numbers.
Thanks again! -
I'm told it was maybe 50hp increse but you'll notice lower EGTs mainly. Nort sure mine were alraedy replaced when I bought mine. Your may have been too. If you look at it they are a lot bigger around than the normal 51.5" muffers (and weigh a ton). Or thats what i've seen from some of the other KWs I have seen at the grain elevators.
-
If it's a standard stack muffler the part # listed earlier shouldn't be more than $125 each. If you're looking at a W900L with the muffler under the bunk, then it will be a little more expensive to go with a low resriction muffler $500 plus shipping. I can get you the same muffler PP sells for this application.
You can get away with running the stock mufflers for a little while. -
I really cannot thank everyone enough for helping me out with my questions. I just want to get as much information as I can so nothing blindsides me.
It looks like the insurance numbers are where they need to be and I have worked with this agency before. I need to just fine tune all the numbers and set my sights on this tractor and hope I can get the selling dealership to an agreeable price.
I get myself all pumped up and then someone comes along and scares the crAAp out of me about the industry. Does anyone have a crystal ball I can barrow for a few weeks?
