An 07 would be an NXS and the shafts and IVA hold down fastners that you mention have been corrected. they are cheap because of the reputation of earlier Acerts. the poor performance/mpg is an easy fix. a few minor mods and an ecm program that addresses the retarded timing and your set. program options are Bully Dog, PDI or a tweaked Cat program availabile from a member here. Mr Haney or Robsredford would be excellent sources to guide you.
FWIW, I HATED my 06 MXS so much I almost traded it before it was a year old. now its been corrected you couldnt pry it from my cold dead hands. best running Cat Ive ever owned. will keep it til the wheels fall off.

Edit. get the engine serial # from a prospective truck and get warranty repair history from Cat

I have a 2005 Mxs series Cat 625 hp. Ive had all kind of problems with it. Lets see at 119,000 miles new head due to actuator bolt breaking. New wiring harness at same time. A year later new head gasket and had #5 cyl pack put in. 2 water pumps thermostats twice. And last had it in the shop 5 times for wiring harness on #3 injector breaking. And I only have 480,000 miles on it. All almost for replaced high pressure turbo and exhaust gaskets twice. I'm a CAT man all the way but, never I repeat never will I buy another new one.

either way you want to go, get the engine serial number and get the warranty ifo checked before buying. Like it was said earlier, if its an 07 it should be an NXS serial number and yes most of the issues were corrected, but still I would get the warranty history. again just my .02 and the reason for them being so cheap is because of the problems and bad rep they have plus werner trucks have flooded the used truck market with these engines in KW's, Pete's, and Freightshaker's.

where or how would someone go about getting the warranty history on one? the truck i own now is a 2000 T600 with at 3406E 475 that i turned up to a 500. i wanted it higher but the mechanic said 500 was as big as it would go. it has a 13 with 3.55 rears.

Go to a Cat dealer with your engine serial number in hand and ask them to run the history on the engine. Then do the same at a Pete dealer. Both reports will state what was done and where it was done. i know the one from Cat will. Not sure about the Pete because a lot of them are independently owned.
    Good Luck

You can take it much higher than what a CAT deealer will do. More than likely he stopped at 500, because of the torque rating of the driveline. The T600 has a smaller grill opening, so you can't push them as hard on power upgrades as a 379 or W900. These trucks have a larger cooling system that can handle the extra power without overheating. Your truck can easily handle a 550hp program with some hot fuel codes in it.

this is for you Mr. Haney in reply to your private message. i cant send a private message till i get 50 posts. i have 45 more to go after this one LOL

So how would this process work? Would I have to pull the ECM and overnight it to you so you can flash it then you overnight it back? I went back and looked at more W9's and put some 07's with the C15 on my watch list. I'm hoping to buy a truck in a few months but not sure how long i have to wait. I will make sure to keep this message so I can have your number.

Yes, this is how it's done or I'll meet some owners at a truck stop and do the upgrades there if there in my area.

If you decide to buy a newer truck than we'll have to do a PDI program for the best results in both power and fuel mileage. We can discuss it when you're ready to do something though, just keep my number if you have any questions.
