Where is this check valve located? In the housing where the primer pump is? Or is it in the housing whit the fuel water separator? My Pete has this type of problem. Won't start after it's been sitting for a day or two. Sits just over night it starts right up. I try to prime it with the hand pump, but that doesn't seem to stiffen up while i'm pumping it. Am I supposed to open a bleeder somewhere while pumping it?
check valve is on the filter base that's on the engine, right behind the filter on the bottom of base. a 1 inch wrench takes it out. don't over tighten the new one when installed.
If your Pete has a Davco filter/separator, there is a check valve at the unit to prevent fuel from draining from the Davco back to the tank. If the fuel level in the Davco drops after sitting a couple days, the check valve in the unit may need replacing; or air maybe entering the unit at the bottom plate seal.
Hi guys, I'm having the same problem. Yesterday once I got it started it ran a little rough so I quickly used the primer pump to bring back the pressure. Once I got it to run smooth after a few strokes I left the plunger out and it ran fine all day. Does that sound like a primer problem or a check valve problem or both? A friend recommended changing the filter housing, possibly a cracked housing, but no signs of stalling or struggling for fuel after I got it running smooth. Thanks for any feedback
i have an 1988 379 pete with a c15/3406 and it didn't have a problem, I pulled up and cou it off and now it want started up it sound like when I try to started it up the jakes are staying on and the motor will stop turn over can some one please help me out
Old thread. So if I get what you're saying, the jakes are stuck on? Also are you sure that's a C15 in there? Unless one's been retrofitted in there you likely have a 3406B. Those mechanical Cats usually don't have an idle cutoff for the jakes so it is possible to stall the engine with the jakes.
My 6nz dose the same but only over the weekends. Runs great all week. Prime is solid so I'm at a lose
