I have already purchased the cap and gasket, just wondering if I drill the holes as Mr. Haney suggested, if I ever need to bolt the primer back on, will it work with 3/8” holes?

    Oxbow Thanks this.

personally I would do what @swaan says. buy the cover, throw the pump in the tool box. Drilling the fuel passage out is something you would never notice in performance. At your filter change just fill the filter up before installing.

Like I said I did it on my 3406C and was happy. I didn't do it on my 6NZ because in the end it just wasn't worth the effort.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

Those stock fuel passages support 1000hp in marine applications. How much power you think you want to make?
Your already getting rid of the restrictions being the one way check valves in primer pump. No need to drill out .

Was just curious. I’m not trying to make any amount of horsepower; I want my engine to live...not explode.
Thought if Mr. Haney suggested drilling them out, it was something I’d investigate.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

I did, never notice an improvement but I know fuel was flowing easier, then I went a few steps further and replace the entire fuel filter base for one that will flow trough with no obstruction whatsoever and there's a difference, but had to rearrange everything that was on the Cat filter base, all that for the sake of better fuel flow and cooler fuel to the injectors.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

I think that’s great; just knowing the fuel is flowing more efficiently and cooler, is worth the effort it takes to achieve.
I don’t believe every modification has to amount to horsepower gains. I take comfort knowing that I’ve done something to make my engine work more efficiently with less effort.

    Oxbow and T800H Thank this.

I have dyno slips for 700+ at the rear tires with a functioning primer pump.

That’s awesome. I’m certainly not advocating being rid of the primer pump; it certainly can come in handy. I’m just attempting to make my engine run more efficiently. It’s all personal choice. I don’t judge one way or the other.

    Oxbow and T800H Thank this.

You just broke the seal by putting foot pressure ...easy solution is 1 person crank don't let engine start and 1 person push plunger inside , it will go easily.... remember you cannot compress liquid... have a good day...
