The bridge law measures from the king pin to the center of the last axle. I've hauled a "permitted" load on a 3 axle stretch trailer. I was 108 feet long over all.

Easy, there, cowboy...... I have a shipper outside of Alturas, about 70 miles from the border. Might have to run there very occasionally. Of course, no coops, just one very annoying, very diligent, very unpredictable State Trooper that likes to set up temporary inspection stations.

Even with the tri slid all the way forward, I'm at 46 feet. Just want to know if I need to have someone run ahead to scout for Officer Dudley....

Oh I wasn't jumping you. You can do anything (almost) with permits. 46' would be a problem if mr dedicated decided to work that day.

Cja, thanks. Sounds like I'll need to make a few calls before coming and going. Fortunately, a lot of people willing to help a driver out in those parts.......

I think it was Interstate from Oregon that had some triaxle 53 foot vans so they could slide the triaxle ahead to meet the 40 foot rule and not be overweight on the trailer axles. A common problem with 53's.

OR and WA have very different laws then CA. You will see a lot of multi axle trailers up north. Some seem to have axles running the whole length of the trailer. Turning those things has to be a pain.

I don't know what you all's experience with CA and more then 2 axles. But when we hauled bio fuel. The boss got the company to buy 4 2007 FL's with drop axle. So they could put more weight on the drives to get the trailers up to the 34,000 limit. Cajon scale stopped em all from going any further. All 4 trucks had to have 300 gallons pulled out. To get the drives down to 34,000. Company wasn't happy with the boss after.

Then the company tried to raise the leveling valve on the drives to make the front of the tanker higher. That only raised 2 inches. Didn't really add any more weight to the trailer. And made the ride very stiff.

They were single bore tanker trailers.

Interesting! Three axle limit is the same as the two axle limit? There's some California logic!

Doesn't matter how many axles. CA don't allow heavy.

I'm not sure on the state regs though. Just what i keep hearing from the companies i've worked for.
