This is why I tryed to get the OP a website. I'm glad some drivers with CA experience came along to answer.

Many people are under the misconception that all the states are the same. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Just a few days ago I discovered a standard operators license is a Class F in MO, a Class E in FL and a Class D in IL. And to top it off, an IL Class D can be used for light commercial purposes that would require a Class E in MO.

Just for my 2 cents the jiffy's truck rental thing is not a bad deal to go through but you better be a quick learner. You only get 4 hours of practice before the test and the last 2 hours are for that. Also they go through everything really quick so once again quick learner. If you are going to do it I would recommend the west Sacramento site. The testing area is really simple and the people are laid back because that is all they do is cdl testing. I used this service to get mine and it was a lot easier than it should have been. On a side note if you use this to get your class a and have never driven before please keep in mine that a full size truck is completely different even after this I probably burned about 1500 worth of deisel just driving the truck and a little more with the trailer on it just to get used to it before trying it with a load.
