Container transport Dutch style, trailers can be split into segments to deliver containers separately , they can carry any size container or any combination of containers, note too the steer axles

Container chassis that split in half are common everywhere over here, the Dutch add a 3rd 20' to them

    Nice!
Superb innovation and engineering. Looks like high quality execution too.
There are many social things in Europe that I could do without, but when it comes to things like transportation infrastructure and equipment, it's another story all together...... The best tech and engineering I've ever seen anywhere.

Buying it it's not the problem. You could buy it in EU put it on the boat and have it here in a couple of weeks. The registering and being able to use it as a commercial vehicle is the problem. DOT and DMV won't register that truck.

Few years ago there was a MAN TGA auctioned in ON, Canada,(somebody brought it here and couldn't have the truck registered)........article read something like this: "can not be registered in Canada and the USA,......for shipment outside US and Canada only, call............"

this is 2axle truck and this engine is gas guzzler hard to get anything more than 6mpg from it maybe on good flat roads and lower weights in US would be possible

here not ....all mercdedes v8 engines before 2005 use lot of fuel , in early 2005 they put single turbo scr and some other modifications

I don't know if this particular truck is a 6x4' 6x2 or just a 4x2, but regardless of configuration, ya can't get plates and run the darn thing here.

Yea, I know! All trucks went really bad concerning fuel economy starting with the '03 models all the way to 2010. The '07 - 09 are probably the worse engines ever produced........at least here.
The newer ones are still to new and not yet proven in order to have an informed opinion.
Over here they went to EGR in '03..... To the 07's EGR + "SCR/DPF" (regeneration with diesel injection) - very, very bad engines. In 2010 to EGR+SCR+DPF using "blue tech"/add blue in EU for regen...better then previous but still a pain.
I guess that this is the end of small fleet owners and the 1 truck O/O's since only the big fleets are able to turn over trucks every 3 years before the warranty expires. The OEM's here are only catering and honor waranies to the really big fleets that has truck purchase power from hundreds to thousands trucks per year. As for the little guy, well, he's left to fight like crazy for every little warranty coverage and often ignored completely to the point of going out of business.
I heard from "Scania man" that PACCAR/DAF is introducing this kind of practicess in the EU. I don't know if this crap is going to fly over there cause of the fierce competition from the rest of truck manufacturers in the EU that still offer superior product quality and support, but kip in mind, things have a tendency towards decay.

I think that they just passed the EOBR's (electronic on board recorders) with this highway bill.
The tyranny of big government it's just getting worst every day. Next thing they come up with might just be mandatory video cams inside the cab and sleeper..........if ya got to eat, ya got to "bend over and take it".........maybe mandatory biochip enforcement it's not that far fetched of an idea and not too far........they probably want to monitor even the body functions and tax you on the stuff that comes out of your rear end.

The two best trucks in Europe for fuel economy are Scania and mercedes, scanias fuel system is a collaboration with cummins and merc has a Detroit engine! Scania can average 11 mpg from a 730hp engine while merc holds the record for an overall semi truck,(12 mpg, some here are much higher but not at full weight!) both are American - euro collaborations, surely there is better to be had had for us all

    it is easy

18 means truck chassis is 18t and it is 2axle
    20 is reinforced 2axle ( for construction)
25 is 3axle with one drive and tag/lead
    26 is light 6x4
27 is special version of 6x2 for scandinavian market
    32 is light 8x4
    33 is heavy 6x4/6x6
35 is sometimes used on concrete mixers but rare
38 is extra heavy duty 6x4 tractor
40 is extra heavy duty 6x4 rigid
    41 is on heavy 8x4/8x6/8x8
44 can be used sometimees as 8x8 but it is about same as 41 ...or for 5axle trucks
48 is offical strongest version but many special and custom numbers exist

no no this engine is very bad in fuel but not because of ecology but because at that time when this engine was released(1996) fuel was cheap here and no one care too much about fuel at that time everybody look to get 500+hp and it was like shame to buy something with 400-450 fuel was than 1.6-1.9$/gallon

, also this truck come with 0.69 overdrive ratio and hub reduction axle even for long haulage

that engine come in 3 versions 476hp,530hp and 571hp , 530 is probably best choice

I've just posted this on another thread! Cams in the cab is happening, not pointed at the driver but out the windscreen onto the road, right now purely for the insurance companies but you know as well as I do shortly it will be law, just posted on another thread where they said electronic monitoring couldn't happen there, two weeks later!!! Laws are only going one way- stupid street!
