    OK man! Splitting hairs here!

I think they had the same cab. I didn't really know them as f7' f8....... They had MAN on the grille and the numbers on the door and I just drove them. The ones in France with the same COE cab said Saviem and they had the shifter on the steering colum and no vertical vent winow, just a sliding split winow on the top of door where the MAN had a none vent one piece window.

I cant agree about bad fuel milage of US trucks, as I can see in similar conditions and the same payload they are equal. I drive S/T with series 60. To Moscow with mixed roads it burns 34-36 L/100 km, like Mercedes Actros MP2. Volvo engine eats a bit more, but not notisable difference. CAT, Cummins, MBE, MAN, Paccar all burn 34-36l/100 km with tint trailer and 20000 kg payload.

Of coursa I say about engine with good injectors, turbo and other stuff

Yeah England used be like America , they'd only buy their own brands, I don't think there was any laws or financial discouragement from bringing them in but it was just a 'buy British ' thing, of course cos we're right next door we got theirs too.

England had a thriving truck and car manufacturing industry that was basically destroyed by constant industrial disputes, to tell you how stupid it got: they guys who put the trimming on the left side of rover cars during a particular dispute went on strike, now nobody else was allowed do their job so rovers were sold with no trimmings on one side til the dispute ended

Anyway to make a long story short the British public got sick of waiting for their cars n trucks and that opened the floodgates for foreign companies to sell their product there, once that happened they realised how superior the foreign machines were and the rest is history !

I guess that's the reason why America won't allow EU trucks on this market. They saw wat happened in Britain and with the invasion of foreign cars here. But, hopefully protectionist tactics will go so far and then let the market decide what's gonna happen.

Yea, it makes sense since you have both in the same environment running with the same quality fuel.

I guess engine tech it's just about the same everywhere these days.

Well most of your manufacturers build trucks here too, paccar, damlier, Volvo , so why is it they won't sell their own products there ? Will they have to use their own money to develop better designs for trucks they already sell there? Could it be pure profit? You can buy an actros from freightliner in Canada , why not in the states too? Or is it possible?

    Stop lying Lenny.

I-shift do wonders in the winter. One of the best things to come on earth for the trucking industries, the only one I have heard dismissing that box are stupid die hard V8 fans, probably because Scania has never been able to build a gearbox that's even close, even the newest opticruise is 10 years behind the I-shift .
TC makes it a hole lot easier to notice when it really gets slippery, was on a Trip from Tana Bru to Mo I Rana when a ABS sensor failed on the drive wheels = no tc. 6x4 and water Ice on the road. Never missed tc so much, when it slipped and I let of the 580s kept pushing for a second resulting in quite wide power slides sometimes :)
Of course while you are climbing you have to turn it of but that's just a touch of a button.
Also that r500 surely had backed km. Cab suspension is not worn out just after a half million on the wonder full Finnish roads, I really mean it, they are simple but they don't fall apart after the winter and very good on keeping the roads clean in the winter

I agree, nobody has built a gearchange as good as ishift, the gearbox itself is not as strong but the gearchange is superior and is no problem on ice !

I never had those problems Lenny described with the cab suspension either and we drive the livin ####e out of them over rough roads besides to buy a couple of bushings every half million isn't going to break the bank especially for the comfort 4 point sus gives you

Trucking should be like F1, no tc or anti lock. Let the best drivers rise to the top!

I'll have to look into that. I don't think that freightliner offers MB Actros in Canada or anywhere else in North America. I think that the couple of MB there art imported by the international heavy hauler Mammoet for some special application and they may only be serviced in a Freightliner facility.

I'm not sure what you mean by "your manuf.." ???
Yea, PACCAR is US, but Volvo is Sweden and Daimler is Germany."....
