i know it is still holding good , maybe would be better if volvo also remain use F series instead of new ones
but this ´88 is still not excuse for this

He, Heee! I gues it is a shock for you euros to see this kinda thing in 2012.
Well, get this: Paccar's Peterbilt 379 still has similar pedals for gas and brakes and the clutch pedal is basically a curved road that exits the cab trough a hole in the floor, same thing like in the 1930s.
Strangely enough, that truck is still the most popular truck in USA and Canada even though the cab is ancient, with a design that is 95% same as in the 60's and 70's, the structure still being made of the same materials and same technology. Basically a shell made out of aluminum sheet, held in place by rivets.
The interiour of the cab is 90% plastic n'our days, but on the dash, the instrument panel still futures 20something gages and an army of togle switches.(drivers like that, even though nobody watches those gages)
The sleepr box is a little bit more integrated these days by a bigger access hole between cab and sleeper structures. The sleeper has a little more vinil or cloth upholstery, but the emergency doors still don't seal well to the sleeper body and lets you see the light outside and sometimes it lets the weather in.
As far as engines, with the exeption of Cummins which tends to be a little better(Scania partnership), Paccar has the same MX pile of crap here but even worse, cause they messed it up even more then the dutch with the EPA regs here.
Gear boxes are a 1930 thech still with direct mash straight teething but with an integrated range and half gear shift which eliminated the two box two stick need for more gear ratios.
Virtually all Paccar product have similar structural problems and share same gas and brakes pedals with the exception of the clutch pedal which is a little more modern on the rest of the Pete and KW models.
All truck makes here have frame rust problems, with Paccar and Volvo in the lead. Pete, KW and volvo will have a 50/50% rusted fraim assembly in the first 4 years of service on the units traveling north of I40 during the winter months. Those trucks limited to the Greal Lakes States and Provinces will have a 100% rusted fraim in the first 5 years of service. (100% rust means that there's no more paint anywhere on frame, just thick flaky rust, which, when wou hitt with a hammer it will fall in chunks by the kilo)
So, don't be too harsh on the euro truck makers, cause you ain't seen nothing yet!Scania man Thanks this. -

i recommend to everyone to look at this video , these are demo video from p/r/t series scania from 2004 ,current range is from 2009 with upgraded interior and exterior over time many things are changed , these are not worst and not best truck models , but it have its positive and negative things , but you might find some useful features
many did complain about pour building quality inside, these are pre production trucks used for scania pictures and tests so they are worst than production trucks in terms of interior ....... so these are worst interior in scania ever....current ones are niceScania man Thanks this. -
DAFs are a nice drive, they run very smooth and are nice and stable on the road, the problem is side, even with the last facelift they left those stupid fly window that gets dirty in minutes blocking the view to the mirrors, this is something they could cure at anytime, it's time for a major redesign

it will be presented at IAA Hanover this year
actualy the cab is from 85 ,it was developed togeather with Pegaso which was the first one to used it ,in their Troner model.
it might have the widest bank but its not a perfect cab,i really hate the visibility ,the driver is siting very low comparing to windscreen, and the door windows lines are to high.
Pegaso and daf shared the same engine which is a licensied Leyland from the 50's,the pegaso variant had 4 valves per cylinder though,
till 2005 daf was using an engine with dry liners designed in the 50'sLast edited: Sep 7, 2012
Scania man Thanks this. -
Those are old mark one r series, the dash was a little plasticky but not bad quality, I mean Ive driven them recently and still no sqeeks or rattles, everything was well screwed together, the main bunk wasn't good at all, I got toppers made for some of mine, the newer ones are very nice indeed, quality has improved

It looks like high quality stuff, but the sleeper is ridiculously small. That's not a sleepr cab mate, it's a "large day cab".
They've got to relax the lenght limitations in Europe, at least they should allow long distance truck cabs to be at least 50cm deeper then today's standards. I don't think that another 50cm aded to the total truck&trailer length will hurt maneuverability or anything else that's associated with length restriction.
The european long distance truckers should lobby those arseholes politicians over there to get reasonable and make the long distance trucker's life a little more bearable on the road.
That bed in the Scania it's ridiculous!
That thing that passes for a bed in the Euro long distance truck shoud be banned under human rights legislations.
The bed matress in a long distance truck should be a minimum 100cm wide and 215cm long in any civilized nation in the world.Last edited: Sep 7, 2012

Agreed but euro cabs are not as small as they look, bunks are 900mm (3ft) in alot of cases these days including that Scania , it's a more integrated design, far better than classic US models, can't compare to a condo style I know but I'm 6'1" and it's nearly my full reach to touch the ceiling , euro cabs are wide in comparison but if our politicians actually cared they would let is have a long wheelbase tractor, I mean with modern steer axles etc turning circles aren't a problem anymore, and when it comes to drivers I think you'll find any experienced driver is very adaptable and handling a few extra feet won't be a problem, politics basically ### our lives up
